The potentiation of spinal analgesia by leucine enkephalin
European Journal of Pharmacology, 1980In two strains of rats, intrathecal administration of morphine and met-enkephalin was found to produce a dose-dependent analgesic effect as measured by the tail-flick assay. Prior administration of leu-enkelphalin at a dose which had no analgesic effect was found to reduce significantly the analgesic ED50 of both morphine and met-enkephalin.

Hydrolysis of Peripheral Leucine Enkephalin in Allergic Asthma
Clinical Immunology, 1999Plasma hydrolysis of leucine enkephalin was studied in a group of patients affected by seasonal allergic asthma in acute and quiescent stage; data were compared with those obtained from a control group of healthy volunteers. Results obtained indicate a statistically significant reduction of leu-enkephalin hydrolysis in allergic subjects.

Synthesis of leucine enkephalin derivatives: Structure-function studies
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1977Abstract The solid phase synthesis of highly purified [Leu 5 ] enkephalin and of seven derivatives including [Ala 2 ,Leu 5 ]-, [Ser 2 ,Leu 5 ]-, [Ser 3 ,Leu 5 ]-, [Aba 2 ,Leu 5 ]-, and [des-Gly 2(3) ,Leu 5 ]enkephalins are reported, and their morphine-like activities in neuroblastoma x glioma cell homogenates were measured. Changes at the 2, 3, and 5

SYNTHESIS OF CHROMOPHORIC DEHYDRO ANALOG OF LEUCINE ENKEPHALIN
International Journal of Peptide and Protein Research, 1981Dehydropeptides incorporating a highly colored group have been prepared by reacting peptide esters with 4‐(4′‐dimethyl‐amino‐3′‐nitro) benzylidene‐2‐phenyloxazolin‐5‐one. This method allows a rapid synthesis of colored analogs of physiologically important peptides, in this case, leucine enkephalin.

Leucine-enkephalin metabolism in brain microvessel endothelial cells
Peptides, 1994The metabolism of leucine-enkephalin was investigated in primary cultures of bovine brain microvessel endothelial cell (BMEC) monolayers. Leucine-enkephalin was hydrolyzed slowly with less than 40% of the peptide metabolized following a 5-h incubation with intact BMEC monolayers at 37 degrees C.

Trauma Decreases Leucine Enkephalin Hydrolysis in Human Plasma
The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1999Plasma hydrolysis of leucine enkephalin was evaluated, together with several cellular immune parameters, in a homogeneous group of human subjects who had undergone severe trauma (proximal femur fracture); data obtained were compared with those obtained in an age-matched control group.

Age Increases Leucine Enkephalin Hydrolysis in Human Plasma
Gerontology, 1998Background: The existence of age-associated alterations in immune functions and neuropeptides capable of modulating these functions prompted us to advance the hypothesis that the degradation of plasma neuropeptides, specifically opioid peptides, may be altered by aging.

Microglial NADPH Oxidase Mediates Leucine Enkephalin Dopaminergic Neuroprotection
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2005Abstract:Here, we report that leucine enkephalin (LE) is neuroprotective to dopaminergic (DA) neurons at femtomolar concentrations through anti‐inflammatory properties. Mesencephalic neuron‐glia cultures pretreated with femtomolar concentrations of LE (10−15‐10−13M) protected DA neurons from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced DA neurotoxicity, as ...

Glycation of Leucine-Enkephalin: Imidazolidinones and Amadori Compounds
2001In an effort to elucidate the properties and reactivity of the parent free sugars, herein we present the formation of leucine-enkephalin related imidazolidinones, as well as Amadori compounds from glucose, mannose or galactose and leucine-enkephalin. We will present the influence of solvent , temperature and added base on the rate of formation of these
