The grapevine microbiota: A review on the possible impacts of plant protection programs on phyllosphere microorganisms

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in understanding how plant protection programs and alternative fungicides affect the taxonomic composition of the grapevine phyllosphere microbiota. Bacterial and fungal communities are primarily shaped by the plant compartment, vineyard location, and sampling time. Plant protection programs generally have a minor

Examining the Clinical Effectiveness of Non-Carbapenem β-Lactams for the Treatment of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2015
Treatment options for extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae are limited. Piperacillin-tazobactam and cefepime represent potential alternative treatment options; however, large prospective studies are lacking.

Iron Physiology and Its Impact on Atopic Diseases: An EAACI Taskforce Report

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Iron is essential for oxygen transport, energy metabolism, and immune regulation. Yet iron deficiency is the most common micronutrient disorder across all age groups, affecting nearly one quarter of the global population. Iron deficiency triggers nutritional immunity, a host defense mechanism that withholds and redistributes iron, contributing

Increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance among Enterobacteriaceae uropathogens in Bangui, Central African Republic

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2009
Background: Because of the previous high prevalence of resistance to usual antibiotics among uropathogens in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR), a survey focused on Enterobacteriaceae, the most prevalent group responsible for urinary tract infections

Longitudinal Follow‐Up of Gut and Salivary Microbiota in Children With Food Protein‐Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study aimed to compare both the gut and salivary microbiota over time between allergic and tolerant patients and matched controls. Allergic patients with food protein‐induced enterocolitis syndrome exhibited lower gut and salivary alpha‐diversities, several genus‐level differences, and higher acetate levels than controls.

Dynamic 16S rRNA Sequencing of the Abdominal Wall Surgical Site Highlights Potential Pathways of Incisional Surgical Site Infection in Colorectal Surgery

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Understanding the microbial changes within the surgical site may enhance our understanding of the origin and subsequent role of microbes in the causation of incisional surgical site infections (SSIs). In this study we used 16S rRNA sequencing to establish the dynamic microbiota of the surgical site in patients undergoing bowel ...
