Global Analysis of the Co‐Occurrence of Antimicrobial and Metal Resistance Genes in Bacterial Genomes From Dairy‐Isolated Pathogens

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 4, April 2026.
Metal contamination in dairy systems drives antibiotic resistance through co‐selection. Analysis of 3303 genomes revealed 74% of isolates harbour more metal than AMR genes. Arsenic (arsB) and tetracycline (tet(38)) resistance co‐occur in 43% of bacteria, exhibiting nearly identical prevalence, suggesting a tight genetic linkage.

Microbiological Characterization of Baru Nuts From the Cerrado Biome, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to microbiologically characterize baru nuts, a seed widely consumed in Brazil with growing relevance in the export market. Analyses were conducted for mesophilic and thermophilic aerobic spore‐forming bacteria, total mesophilic aerobes, Enterobacteriaceae, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, lactic acid bacteria, molds, and ...

Dynamic Lysine Acetylation Disrupts Isocitrate Lyase Function and Enables Metabolic Optimisation

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
Acetyl‐phosphate–dependent acetylation of E. coli isocitrate lyase (ICL) at K13 and K308 inhibits its activity, while CobB‐mediated deacetylation restores function. Introducing K13R/K308R mutations enhances metabolic balance and increases lycopene yield by 61%, providing a promising approach to optimise microbial cell factories through natural ...

Viral Diversity of Coastal Restinga Soils From Southern Brazil

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study revealed high viral diversity in Restinga soils of southern Brazil, identifying over 6000 species (half unclassified) across 261 families. Dominant families included Mimiviridae, Phycodnaviridae, Peduoviridae and Kyanoviridae. While diversity was consistent among sites, urbanization and landscape isolation influenced viral richness and ...

Investigation of the gut microbiome community, abundance, and functions of Procambarus clarkii under different aquaculture conditions

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract To examine the gut microbial composition and functional attributes of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) across different rearing environments, this experiment employed high‐throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene of bacterial DNA isolated from the gut.
