Genomic comparative analysis of the environmental Enterococcus mundtii against enterococcal representative species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Enterococcus mundtii is a yellow-pigmented microorganism rarely found in human infections. The draft genome sequence of E. mundtii was recently announced. Its genome encodes at least 2,589 genes and 57 RNAs, and 4 putative genomic islands have

Heteroresistance to Vancomycin in Enterococcus faecium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2001
ABSTRACT This study presents the first report of vancomycin heteroresistance in an Enterococcus faecium isolate from a patient. The original isolate was susceptible in vitro to vancomycin. E-tests showed growth of subcolonies in a zone of inhibition with a vancomycin MIC of >256 μg/ml.

Biodegradation of Cholesterol by Enterococcus faecium YY01

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Cholesterol (CHOL) is one of the risk factors causing the blockage of the arterial wall, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and other serious cardiovascular diseases. Here, a promising bacterial strain for biodegrading CHOL was successfully isolated from the gut of healthy individuals and identified as Enterococcus faecium YY01 with an analysis ...

Optimization of PCR-RFLP Method to Confirm the Identification of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus Faecium Isolated from Food Samples

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Commercial kits for species identification of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium are in some cases (environmental isolates) incorrect to distinguish this species of enterococci.

Antimicrobial antagonists against food pathogens; a bacteriocin perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
peer-reviewedEfforts are continuing to find novel bacteriocins with enhanced specificity and potency. Traditional plating techniques are still being used for bacteriocin screening studies, however, the availability of ever more bacterial genome sequences

Interactions between commensal Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus lactis and clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecium

open access: yesFEMS Microbes
Abstract Enterococcus faecium (Efm) is a versatile pathogen, responsible for multidrug-resistant infections, especially in hospitalized immunocompromised patients. Its population structure has been characterized by diverse clades (A1, A2, and B (reclassified as E.

Membrane Vesicles from Lacticaseibacillus Casei BL23 Exhibit Antimicrobial Activity Against Escherichia coli and Immunostimulatory Effects on Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Membrane vesicles derived from the probiotic Lacticaseibacillus casei BL23 demonstrate antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli and a potential biological effect in improving the overall survival of C. elegans infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These vesicles stimulated immune responses in primary cells without causing toxicity. Our results
