Cellular receptors for human enterovirus species A [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Human enterovirus species A (HEV-A) is one of the four species of HEV in the genus Enterovirus in the family Picornaviridae. Among HEV-A, coxsackievirus A16 (CVA16) and enterovirus 71 (EV71) are the major causative agents of hand, foot, and mouth disease

Diversity of Rhinovirus and Enterovirus Infections Among Pediatric Patients Hospitalized in Wisconsin, 2022-2023. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Med Virol
ABSTRACT Severe rhinovirus (RV)/enterovirus (EV) respiratory infections in pediatric patients increased in the US during 2022–2023. This study aimed to characterize RV/EV genetic diversity among hospitalized children in Wisconsin and describe demographic and clinical factors of patients by RV/EV type.

Human Rhinovirus 87 and Enterovirus 68 Represent a Unique Serotype with Rhinovirus and Enterovirus Features [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2002
ABSTRACT It has recently been reported that all but one of the 102 known serotypes of the genus Rhinovirus segregate into two genetic clusters (C. Savolainen, S. Blomqvist, M. N. Mulders, and T. Hovi, J. Gen. Virol. 83: 333-340, 2002).

High Prevalence of Human Enterovirus A Infections in Natural Circulation of Human Enteroviruses [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2006
ABSTRACT Human enterovirus (HEV) infections can be asymptomatic or cause only mild illness; recent evidence may implicate HEV infection in type 1 diabetes mellitus and myocarditis. Here, we report the molecular characterization of HEV obtained in serial monthly collections from healthy Norwegian infants.

Human Enterovirus 109: a Novel Interspecies Recombinant Enterovirus Isolated from a Case of Acute Pediatric Respiratory Illness in Nicaragua [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2010
ABSTRACT Enteroviruses ( Picornaviridae family) are a common cause of human illness worldwide and are associated with diverse clinical syndromes, including asymptomatic infection, respiratory illness, gastroenteritis, and meningitis.

Neonates with acute liver failure have higher overall mortality but similar posttransplant outcomes as older infants

open access: yesLiver Transplantation, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Neonatal acute liver failure (ALF) carries a high mortality rate; however, little data exist on its peritransplant hospital course. This project aimed to identify factors associated with outcomes in neonates with ALF using large multicenter databases.

Pathologic Characterization of a Murine Model of Human Enterovirus 71 Encephalomyelitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology, 2008
We describe a model of Enterovirus 71 encephalomyelitis in 2-week-old mice that shares many features with the human central nervous system (CNS) disease. Mice were infected via oral and parenteral routes with a murine-adapted virus strain originally from a fatal human case. The mice succumbed to infection after 2 to 5 days.

Enterovirus-Human Rhinovirus: A Rare Cause of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Medicine High Impact Case Reports, 2017
A 22-year-old Asian woman presented with respiratory distress, cough, and wheezing for 1 week. Prior history included asthma and Turner syndrome. On presentation to the emergency department, the patient was hypotensive, tachycardic, tachypneic, with an oxyhemoglobin saturation in the mid 80% range while breathing ambient air. Chest radiograph revealed

Clinical manifestations of CNS infections caused by enterovirus type 71 [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2011
PurposeEnterovirus 71, one of the enteroviruses that are responsible for both hand-foot-and-mouth disease and herpangina, can cause neural injury. During periods of endemic spread of hand-foot-andmouth disease caused by enterovirus 71, CNS infections are
