Purpureocillium jiangxiense sp. nov.: Entomopathogenic Effects on Ostrinia furnacalis and Galleria mellonella

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The genus Purpureocillium is renowned for its role in biocontrol and biotechnological applications. The identification of new species within this genus is crucial for broadening our understanding of its ecological roles and potential utility in ...

Native Regiella Endosymbionts Provide Strong Parasitoid Protection With Limited Impacts on Fitness and Virus Transmission in Myzus persicae

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 6, June 2026.
Native Regiella insecticola in Myzus persicae provides strong protection against parasitoid wasps but imposes only modest reproductive costs and does not affect virus transmission. Despite stable vertical and horizontal transmission, these effects alone do not explain the low natural prevalence of **Regiella** in field populations.

Biological parameters of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) assayed with Bacillus thuringiensis berliner

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2005
The bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a promising control agent of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith). Besides the lethal effect on hosts, the entomopathogen may cause physiological alterations that hinder insects' feeding intake and reproduction.

Computational identification and characterization of chitinase 1 and chitinase 2 from neotropical isolates of Beauveria bassiana

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioinformatics
BackgroundThe fungus Beauveria bassiana is widely used for agronomical applications, mainly in biological control. B. bassiana uses chitinase enzymes to degrade chitin, a major chemical component found in insect exoskeletons and fungal cell walls ...

Effect of passing Beauveria bassiana through alkane based media on the adult mortalities of Rhyzopertha dominica and Sitophilus oryzae

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2018
Entomopathogenic fungi have been investigated for management of stored product pests as alternatives to chemical control. Beauveria bassiana is commonly considered and thus increasing its efficacy has also been studied.

Movement and Survival of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Neonate Larvae on Cotton Expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Proteins

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 6, Page 549-558, June 2026.
Spodoptera litura neonates showed increased movement on Bt‐expressing Bollgard 3 (BG) cotton leaf discs but did not initially avoid it. Survival was higher when larvae could move from BG3 to non‐Bt leaf discs. On whole plants, more larvae dispersed from hatching on BG3 cotton compared to non‐Bt cotton. These findings suggest the larval movement differs

Composition and Diversity Characteristics of Gut Microbiota during the Development of Telchinia issoria (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Ramie (Boehmeria nivea) is a traditional economic crop of high commercial value, whose cultivation is threatened by the leaf‐feeding pest Telchinia issoria. This study investigated how the gut microbiota of T. issoria shifts across its larval, pupal, and adult stages using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. ABSTRACT Ramie (Boehmeria nivea) was a traditional

Optimizing Sex Ratio and Colony Size to Enhance Reproduction and Mass‐Rearing in Spodoptera litura Under Controlled Laboratory Conditions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Skewed sex ratios frequently constrain colony performance and limit the efficiency of large‐scale rearing systems. For Spodoptera litura, the 1:1 initial sex ratio maximizes female longevity and fecundity. When this ratio is scaled to colony sizes of 20:20, 40:40 and 60:60, the 40:40 configuration yields the best overall reproductive performance, while

Potential of Beauveria bassiana in the control of Euschistus crenator (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) and selectivity to the parasitoid Telenomus podisi (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 5015-5025, May 2026.
Entomopathogenic fungi effectively suppressed the emerging soybean pest Euschistus crenator, with isolates LCMAP106, UFSM‐01 and a commercial bioinsecticide achieving the highest mortality. These agents did not reduce parasitism or survival of the egg parasitoid Telenomus podisi, highlighting their potential for integration into environmentally ...
