Mixing‐Driven Defects and Composition Evolution in Multi‐Material Metal Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Operando synchrotron X‐ray imaging coupled with high‐fidelity multiphysics modeling uncovers how inter‐material mixing reshapes keyhole dynamics and drives distinct pore‐formation pathways in multi‐material laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Composition‐dependent instabilities trigger defects, whereas rescanning suppresses porosity and homogenizes Cu ...

Causal evidence that intrinsic beta frequency is relevant for enhanced signal propagation in the motor system as shown through rhythmic TMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Correlative evidence provides support for the idea that brain oscillations underpin neural computations. Recent work using rhythmic stimulation techniques in humans provide causal evidence but the interactions of these external signals with intrinsic ...

Wearable‐Derived Diurnal Alignment Between Physical Activity and Device Temperature Predicts Future Disease and Mortality Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wearable‐derived diurnal alignment between physical activity and device temperature, decomposed into 24 h coupling strength (M24), phase deviation (D24), and 12 h harmonic magnitude (M12), is examined in approximately 90,000 UK Biobank participants.

The strength of neural entrainment to electronic music correlates with proxies of altered states of consciousness

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience
In electronic music events, the driving four-on-the-floor music appears pivotal for inducing altered states of consciousness (ASCs). While various physiological mechanisms link repetitive auditory stimuli to ASCs, entrainment—a brainwave synchronization ...

Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Entrainment as an electrophysiologic phenomenon

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 1984
observed that a critical rate of pacing was requiredto terminate atrial flutter. At the lower rates of pacing, continuation of the arrhythmia occurred immediately aftercessation of pacing. Their observations had important clinical implications, including the recommendation for systematic prophylactic implantation of electrodes during cardiacsurgical ...

Phases of entrainment within the entrainment regions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Left: Numerical simulations of amplitude-phase model. Right: Entrainment phases from Eq. (2) derived from the Kuramoto phase equation. In both cases the entrainment phase varies from −6 h to 6 h between the borderlines of entrainment. Note that the lines

Flow characteristics and regime transitions in fluidization systems of Group C+ particles

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Fine and ultrafine particles are attractive for fluidized bed reactors because their high surface area benefits catalytic processes, but their cohesive nature complicates regime characterization. Nanoparticle modulation improves the flowability of Group C powders, yet their bubbling to turbulent transition remains unclear.

Numerical and experimental investigation of a confined plunging liquid jet system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In a confined plunging liquid jet (CPLJ) system, a liquid jet is allowed to fall in a partially submerged narrow downcomer tube. Liquid jet impingement at gas-liquid interface leads to entrainment of gas, which is dispersed down the downcomer tube in to ...

Segmented Therapeutic Delivery via Acoustic Microbubble Relay

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An acoustically driven, modular segmented delivery system is presented to overcome mechanical limitations of conventional microcatheters. Oscillating microbubbles generate directional streaming that enables continuous, targeted transport across open, angled segments.
