On preimage entropy, folding entropy and stable entropy
Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2020For non-invertible dynamical systems, we investigate how ‘non-invertible’ a system is and how the ‘non-invertibility’ contributes to the entropy from different viewpoints. For a continuous map on a compact metric space, we propose a notion of pointwise metric preimage entropy for invariant measures.

Nonequilibrium entropy and entropy distributions
Physical Review B, 1990Glasses have nonzero zero-temperature entropies. Because they are out of equilibrium, the ``thermodynamic'' entropy, determined by heat flow, is not equal to the ``statistical'' entropy, which measures volumes in phase space. We discuss the relationship between the two kinds of entropy in nonequilibrium systems and show that the thermodynamic entropies

On Entropy-Stable Discretizations and the Entropy Adjoint
Journal of Scientific Computing, 2021For symmetrizable conservation laws, the entropy variables are adjoints for a functional that balances entropy flux into the domain with sources of entropy inside the domain. In this paper, it was shown that entropy-stable summation by parts (SBP) discretizations mimic an additional property of the continuous equations: the entropy adjoint. The entropy

The concept of entropy, originally derived from thermodynamics, has been successfully applied to EEG analysis. Various entropy algorithms have been used in clinical studies, but until now a commercially available monitor exists only for spectral entropy.

Proceedings of the forty-first annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing, 2009
We put forth a new computational notion of entropy, which measures the (in)feasibility of sampling high entropy strings that are consistent with a given protocol. Specifically, we say that the i'th round of a protocol (A,B) has *accessible entropy* at most k, if no polynomial-time strategy A* can generate messages for A such that the entropy of its ...

Entropy Landscaping of High‐Entropy Carbides
Advanced Materials, 2021AbstractThe entropy landscape of high‐entropy carbides can be used to understand and predict their structure, properties, and stability. Using first principles calculations, the individual and temperature‐dependent contributions of vibrational, electronic, and configurational entropies are analyzed, and compare them qualitatively to the enthalpies of ...
