Entropy Generation Rate and Hydrogen Production Rate Analyses for Steam Methane Reforming Reactor Heated by Molten Salt

open access: yes, 2020
Solar thermochemical energy storage can effectively solve the uneven distribution of solar energy in time and space. Based on the model of industrial methane steam reforming reactor, the model of steam methane reforming reactor heated by molten salt (MS ...

Entropy Generation and Human Aging: Lifespan Entropy and Effect of Physical Activity Level [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The first and second laws of thermodynamics were applied to biochemical reactions typical of human metabolism. An open-system model was used for a human body.

A Review of Shannon and Differential Entropy Rate Estimation

open access: yes, 2021
In this paper, we present a review of Shannon and differential entropy rate estimation techniques. Entropy rate, which measures the average information gain from a stochastic process, is a measure of uncertainty and complexity of a stochastic process. We

Thermal Analysis in Pipe Flow: Influence of Variable Viscosity on Entropy Generation

open access: yesEntropy, 2004
: Flow through pipes and heating situations find wide applications in industry. Depending on the fluid properties, temperature field in the pipe changes. This in turn results in thermodynamic irreversibility in the flow system.

Entropy generation approach for evaluating energy dissipation and temperature rise to predict the fatigue life behaviour in magnesium alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The objective of this present study is to use entropy generation to predict the fatigue life behaviour of magnesium alloy. As the energy dissipation rate directly correlates with material degradation and increases in temperature, the entropy generation ...

Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Roxarestat in Regulating Renal Anemia in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of roxarestat versus recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) in the management of renal anemia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods This was a prospective, open‐label, randomized controlled trial.

Entropy production and lost work for irreversible processes

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper we analyse in depth the Lost Work in an irreversible process (i.e. IRREV REV Lost ) W =W -W . This quantity is also called ‘degraded energy’ or ‘Energy unavailable to do work’. Usually in textbooks one can find the relation Lost U W o TDS .

ENTROPY GENERATION RATE IN A MICROSCALE THIN FILM

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Engineering, 2019
This paper presents a new formulation of the rate of entropy generation in thin films whose thickness is of the order of the mean-free-path or less. In this relation, an expression for the gradient of the equivalent equilibrium temperature is proposed that is a function of the gradient of the phonon intensity at any point inside the thin film.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
