Assessing Cognitive Functioning in Children With Brain Tumors: Interaction of Neighborhood Social Determinants of Health and Neurological Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study investigated how neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDOH), including redlining and neurological risk, interact to influence cognitive outcomes in children treated for brain tumors (CTBT). Methods A retrospective chart review of 161 CTBT aged 5–17 was conducted.

Challenges and progress on the modelling of entropy generation in porous media: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Depending upon the ultimate design, the use of porous media in thermal and chemical systems can provide significant operational advantages, including helping to maintain a uniform temperature distribution, increasing the heat transfer rate, controlling ...

ENTROPY GENERATION RATE IN A MICROSCALE THIN FILM

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Engineering, 2019
This paper presents a new formulation of the rate of entropy generation in thin films whose thickness is of the order of the mean-free-path or less. In this relation, an expression for the gradient of the equivalent equilibrium temperature is proposed that is a function of the gradient of the phonon intensity at any point inside the thin film.

Time Toxicity in Wilms Tumor: Quantifying the Burden of Healthcare Interaction in the First Year After Diagnosis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Wilms tumor (WT) treatment imposes a significant time burden on patients and their families. Time toxicity is a patient‐centered metric that quantifies the burden of healthcare interaction. We sought to define time toxicity in the first year after diagnosis of WT and hypothesized that it would increase as tumor stage and treatment ...

Entropy Generation of Shell and Double Concentric Tubes Heat Exchanger

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2016
Entropy generation was studied for new type of heat exchanger (shell and double concentric tubes heat exchanger). Parameters of hot oil flow rate, temperature of inlet hot oil and pressure drop were investigated with the concept of entropy generation ...

Entropy Generation Rate as a Marker for the Onset of Flame Instability

open access: yesFlow, Turbulence and Combustion
Abstract A comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of intrinsic flame instability, including hydrodynamic and thermodiffusive instabilities, is becoming more important with the move towards greater reliance on hydrogen as a zero-carbon fuel.
