Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

This paper proposes a novel model of the two-level scalar quantizer with extended Huffman coding. It is designed for the average bit rate to approach the source entropy as close as possible provided that the signal to quantization noise ratio (SQNR ...

On empirical cumulant generating functions of code lengths for individual sequences
We consider the problem of lossless compression of individual sequences using finite-state (FS) machines, from the perspective of the best achievable empirical cumulant generating function (CGF) of the code length, i.e., the normalized logarithm of the ...

Deterministic dense coding and entanglement entropy [PDF]
We present an analytical study of the standard two-party deterministic dense-coding protocol, under which communication of perfectly distinguishable messages takes place via a qudit from a pair of non-maximally entangled qudits in pure state |S>.

The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Distinguishing protein-coding from non-coding RNAs through support vector machines. [PDF]
RIKEN's FANTOM project has revealed many previously unknown coding sequences, as well as an unexpected degree of variation in transcripts resulting from alternative promoter usage and splicing.

Efficient Inter-Prediction Method Using Reference Frame Accumulation for MPEG G-PCC
This paper presents a novel hybrid reference frame generation method to enhance the inter-prediction performance of geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC), a recent point cloud coding standard developed by the moving picture experts group (MPEG ...

Universal finitary codes with exponential tails
In 1977, Keane and Smorodinsky showed that there exists a finitary homomorphism from any finite-alphabet Bernoulli process to any other finite-alphabet Bernoulli process of strictly lower entropy.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

An optimized transform and quantization scheme for HEVC intra lossless coding
The lossless coding framework of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) comprises prediction and entropy coding, while omitting the transform process. However, residuals derived from prediction continue to demonstrate significant spatial redundancy, which ...
