On Generalized Schürmann Entropy Estimators
We present a new class of estimators of Shannon entropy for severely undersampled discrete distributions. It is based on a generalization of an estimator proposed by T. Schürmann, which itself is a generalization of an estimator proposed by myself. For a special set of parameters, they are completely free of bias and have a finite variance, something ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Parametric Competition in non-autonomous Hamiltonian Systems
In this work we use the formalism of chord functions (\emph{i.e.} characteristic functions) to analytically solve quadratic non-autonomous Hamiltonians coupled to a reservoir composed by an infinity set of oscillators, with Gaussian initial state.

A general notion of algebraic entropy and the rank-entropy
The notion of entropy of a dynamical system is ubiquitous. In this paper, the authors consider entropy of a system \((M,\varphi)\) where \(M\) is a module and \(\varphi\) its endomorphism. Basically, the idea is to study the growth of submodules \(\sum_n\varphi^n(F)\) of \(M\) as \(n\) increases, where \(F\) is a ``finite'' submodule.

Angiotensin II (AngII), a neuropeptide, interacts with amyloid‐β (Aβ), a key player in Alzheimer's disease. This study reveals that AngII reduces Aβ aggregation and membrane disruption in vitro. Biophysical assays and molecular modeling suggest AngII binds disordered Aβ forms, potentially modulating early amyloidogenic events and contributing to ...

Entropy Generation in MHD Flow of a Uniformly Stretched Vertical Permeable Surface under Oscillatory Suction Velocity [PDF]
This paper reports the analytical calculation of the entropy generation due to heat and mass transfer and fluid friction in steady state of a uniformly stretched vertical permeable surface with heat and mass diffusive walls, by solving analytically the ...

Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Analysis of NO Formation and Entropy Generation in a Reactive Flow
A comprehensive investigation of turbulent combustion is accomplished to study the relationship between nitrogen oxide (NO) formation and entropy generation distribution in a non-premixed propane combustion. The radiation heat transfer and combustion are

Generalized Entropy Generation Expressions in Gases [PDF]
In this study, we generalize our previous methods for obtaining entropy generation in gases without the need to carry through a specific expansion method, such as the Chapman–Enskog method. The generalization, which is based on a scaling analysis, allows for the study of entropy generation in gases for any arbitrary state of the gas and consistently ...
