Neural modulation of ocular immunity: Exploring a sympathetic‐macrophage neuroimmune link in the human ciliary body

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Using microscopy and 3D confocal imaging on seven cadaveric eyes, we identified sympathetic nerves closely associated with β₂‐adrenergic receptor‐expressing macrophages in the human ciliary body (CB). These findings suggest a sympathetic‐macrophage neuroimmune link in the CB, potentially influencing ocular inflammation and degeneration, warranting ...

Lamination of primary visual cortex in the macaque: Layer 5 subdivisions

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We show a previously unrecognized trilaminar cytoarchitectonic organization within layer 5 of the opercular portion of the macaque primary visual cortex (V1), denoted as sub‐laminae 5Aα, 5Aβ, and 5B, a region which is involved in foveal and central visual field analyses.

Bone Grafts: Everything You Need to Know

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This review classifies bone grafts (autograft, allograft, xenograft, synthetic) by source and osteogenic/inductive/conductive potential, linking material properties and mechanisms to clinical indications in periodontal and dental regeneration. Key challenges—limited osteoinduction, poor vascularisation, unbalanced resorption, handling difficulties, and

Platelet Levels Associated With Bleeding Risk for Dental Interventions: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate evidence in relation to postoperative bleeding in humans aged ≥ 16 with preoperative platelet counts < 50,000/μL, compared to those above, undergoing dental interventions. Methods Quantitative synthesis without meta‐analysis was conducted through an electronic search conducted on Ovid MEDLINE and Embase from 1946 to ...

Secretory Carcinoma Mimicking a Mucocele: Case Report and Literature Update

open access: yesOral Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Secretory carcinoma (SC), also known as mammary analogue secretory carcinoma, is a rare malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands, named for its histological and molecular resemblance to mammary secretory carcinoma. The aim of this study is to present a new case of SC occurring in the lower lip, initially diagnosed as a mucocele, and to ...
