Serotonergic Modulation of Sensory Neuron Activity and Behavior in Apteronotus albifrons

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2020
Organisms must constantly adapt to changes in their environment to survive. It is thought that neuromodulators such as serotonin enable sensory neurons to better process input encountered during different behavioral contexts.

A Method for Rapid Polyethyleneimine-Based Purification of Bacteriophage-Expressed Proteins from Diluted Crude Lysates, Exemplified by Thermostable TP-84 Depolymerase

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Purification of bacteriophage-expressed proteins poses methodological difficulties associated with the need to process entire culture medium volume upon bacteriophage-induced bacterial cell lysis.

N-glycosylation in the Pre-Membrane Protein Is Essential for the Zika Virus Life Cycle

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Asparagine (N)-linked protein glycosylation plays an important role in protein synthesis and modification. Two Zika virus (ZIKV) structural proteins, the pre-membrane (prM) and envelope (E) protein are N-glycosylated.

Seismogram Rearrangement as a Perspective Basis for Defining New Attributes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Proper regulative in earthquake risk reduction, hazard assessment, earthquake resistant design and construction of structures, should be under perpetual improvement. They are mainly the result of earthquake study and analysis of post-seismic effects.

The Examination of Viral Characteristics of HIV-1 CRF07_BC and Its Potential Interaction with Extracellular Galectin-3

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
HIV-1 CRF07_BC is a B’ and C subtype recombinant emerging virus and many of its viral characteristics remain unclear. Galectin-3 (Gal3) is a β-galactose binding lectin that has been reported as a pattern recognition receptor (PRR) and is known to mediate

The Combined Bearing Capacities of Anchor Chain Segment by Considering Its Actual Geometry and Roughness

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
The soil resistances along the embedded ground chain affect the pull-out capacity of anchor as they determine the magnitude and direction of tension at the padeye. To facilitate analyses, the chain was usually simplified as a cylindrical line.

Immune suppression of vaccine-induced CD8+ T-cell responses by gamma retrovirus envelope is mediated by interleukin-10-producing CD4+ T cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Retroviral envelope (Env) proteins have long been recognized to exhibit immunosuppressive properties, which affect the CD8+ T-cell response to an infection but also to immunization. Interestingly, we previously showed in the Friend murine leukemia virus

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
