Modulating Surface‐Active Hydrogen for Facilitating Nitrate‐to‐Ammonia Electroreduction on Layered Double Hydroxides Nanosheets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The NiCuFe‐layered double hydroxides nanosheets are synthesized for facilitating nitrate‐to‐ammonia with a high ammonia yield of 1.64 mmol h−1 cm−2, Faradaic efficiency of 94.8% and stability for 15 cycles. The assembled Zn‐nitrate battery delivers a remarkable power density of 12.4 mW cm−2.

Strategic Environmental Policy Under Free Trade with Transboundary Pollution [PDF]

open access: yes
We analyze the effects of free trade on environmental policies in a strategic setting with transboundary pollution. Trade liberalization can result in a race to the bottom in environmental outcomes, making both countries worse off.

Solar Heating Enhanced Selective Recovery of Metal Ions Through Flowing Electrodes Enabled by Hybrid Carbon Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new electrochemical system based on a microporous hybrid of carbon nanoplatelets and nanotubes to selectively capture Ni2+ from wastewater is constructed. The system temperature rises rapidly when irradiated with sunlight, which enhances the Ni2+ removal rate by 250% and the selectivity by 53%, and the energy consumption is also reduced by 51 ...

Environmental fiscal policies might be ineffective to control pollution [PDF]

open access: yes
In a one sector growth model with pollution in the utility function, the competitive equilibrium can be indeterminate for plausible values of the intertemporal substitution elasticity of consumption and under constant returns to scale.

Electro‐Active Polymer Actuated Microfiltration Membranes: Design, Performance, and Particle Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The concept of foulant particle manipulation and detachment from active microfiltration membranes via voltage‐driven vibrations is introduced. Actuator components are initially integrated onto the filtration membranes using an airbrush spray printing technique.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

Opportunities for improving environmental compliance in Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes
Survey evidence from Mexico reveals large observed differences in pollution from factories in the same industry, or the same area, or operating under the same regulatory regime.

Clear Consensus, Ambiguous Commitment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Americans from every demographic, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic category identify themselves as concerned about the environment, and most say that they have personally taken steps to reduce pollution or improve environmental quality in some way.

Microneedle‐Based Biofertilizer Delivery Improves Plant Growth Through Microbiome Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This figure shows how microneedles are used to deliver biofertilizers to enhance plant growth through microbial migration, metabolic reprogramming, and changes in plant endogenous microbiome. Abstract This study presents a microneedle‐based system for the delivery of rhizospheric biofertilizers into plant tissues to enhance growth.
