Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

β-Galactosidase- and Photo-Activatable Fluorescent Probes for Protein Labeling and Super-Resolution STED Microscopy in Living Cells

open access: yesMolecules
We report on the synthesis of two fluorescent probes which can be activated by β-Galactosidase (β-Gal) enzymes and/or light. The probes contained 2-nitro-4-oxybenzyl and 3-nitro-4-oxybenzyl fragments, with β-Gal residues linked to C-4.

Stochastic focusing coupled with negative feedback enables robust regulation in biochemical reaction networks

open access: yes, 2015
Nature presents multiple intriguing examples of processes which proceed at high precision and regularity. This remarkable stability is frequently counter to modelers' experience with the inherent stochasticity of chemical reactions in the regime of low ...

Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

Principal basis for enzyme power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The reaction rate enhancement that enzymes produce had not been fully appreciated. The object of the article is to present the mechanism of the enormous catalytic power of the enzymes.

Drug treatment of hypertension: focus on vascular health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hypertension, the most common preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death, is a growing health burden. Serious cardiovascular complications result from target organ damage including cerebrovascular disease, heart failure, ischaemic heart

Covalent immobilization of glucoamylase enzyme onto chemically activated surface of κ-carrageenan

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre, 2019
Background Glucoamylase enzyme is one of the most important enzymes. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of starch into soluble sugars. It was covalently immobilized onto κ-carrageenan gel beads after activation by using polyethylenimine (PEI) followed by ...

Enzymatic functionalization of carbon-hydrogen bonds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The development of new catalytic methods to functionalize carbon–hydrogen (C–H) bonds continues to progress at a rapid pace due to the significant economic and environmental benefits of these transformations over traditional synthetic methods.

Effects of Combined Phosphorylation at Ser-617 and Ser-1179 in Endothelial Nitric-oxide Synthase on EC50(Ca2+) Values for Calmodulin Binding and Enzyme Activation*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2009
We have investigated the possible biochemical basis for enhancements in NO production in endothelial cells that have been correlated with agonist- or shear stress-evoked phosphorylation at Ser-1179. We have found that a phosphomimetic substitution at Ser-
