Increased Lymphocyte Proportions as a Candidate Biomarker for Immune‐Related Adverse Events in Patients Treated With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Chemotherapy

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Combination therapy comprising immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and chemotherapy is standard treatment for many cancer types. However, the management of adverse events (AEs) induced by combination therapy is more complicated than that of AEs induced by ICI monotherapy.

Mucosal‐Associated Invariant T Cells in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
The roles of MAIT cells in health and disease and their therapeutic applications. In healthy individuals, riboflavin metabolites secreted by commensal bacteria at mucosal sites are presented by MR1, leading to the activation of MAIT cells. Activated MAIT cells can maintain the barrier integrity of mucosal tissues in a steady state or migrate to the ...

Liver Metastases from Colorectal Cancer: From Pathogenesis to Current Treatment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
The liver is not merely a passive recipient of disseminated tumor cells, but a unique metastatic organ shaped by anatomical, metabolic, and immunological characteristics that support tumor colonization. Increasing evidence indicates that colorectal cancer liver metastasis development is driven by dynamic interactions between tumor intrinsic programs ...

Carbon Quantum Dots: From Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are promising carbon‐based nanomaterials with broad biomedical applications, including bioimaging, drug delivery, biosensing, and tissue regeneration. This Review summarizes the biological mechanisms of CQDs in tissue regeneration, focusing on their regulation of cellular functions, immune responses, and redox balance.

Transplantation of Elderly Human Gut Microbiota Into Pigs Reprograms Intestinal Barrier Function, Plasma Metabolome, and Gut Mucosal Transcriptomic Landscape

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
Elderly human donor microbiota disrupts intestinal barrier integrity and reshapes host metabolic and mucosal transcriptional profiles in human microbiota‐associated pigs. Integrated multi‐omics analyses identify coordinated microbial, metabolic, and host alterations associated with age‐related intestinal decline.

Late‐Onset Mesalazine‐Induced Eosinophilic Pneumonitis Presenting as Non‐Resolving Pneumonia: A Diagnostic Pitfall in Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Mesalazine is widely used in the management of ulcerative colitis and is generally well tolerated. Rarely, it can cause eosinophilic pneumonitis, a potentially serious form of drug‐induced lung injury that often mimics infection.

A Hypereosinophilic Syndrome Presenting as Eosinophilic Colitis

open access: yesClinical Endoscopy, 2012
HYPEREOSINOPHILIC SYNDROME (HES) HAS THREE DEFINING FEATURES: marked hypereosinophilia for at least 6 months, no confirmed etiology for the eosinophilia, and eosinophilia-related symptoms or organ dysfunction. However, a shorter period of hypereosinophilia with symptoms requiring eosinophil-lowering therapy is also acceptable.
