Anti‐Browning and Prebiotic Effects of White Tea Extract on Fresh‐Cut Lotus Root

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
PPO‐driven browning limits the shelf life of fresh‐cut lotus root. Lotus root PPO was identified and its 3D structure modeled, with catechin and caffeic acid as specific substrates binding via 8 and 5 hydrogen bonds, respectively. White tea extract inhibited PPO and delayed browning of lotus root slices. White tea‐treated lotus root exhibited prebiotic

Potentially Toxic Elements and Male Reproductive Toxicity: Mechanisms, Implications, and Protective Strategies: A Narrative Review

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 10, October 2026.
Potentially toxic elements impair male reproductive function through oxidative stress, DNA damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, endocrine disruption and epigenetic alterations. Antioxidants, phytochemicals, chelating agents and healthy lifestyle interventions may help mitigate testicular toxicity and preserve fertility.

Integrated phytochemical and bioactivity profiling of Xanthium strumarium fruits from Korea and China: Implications for origin‐specific quality specification

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 13, Page 7606-7613, October 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Geographic origin influences the phytochemical composition and biological activities of medicinal plant resources. Xanthium strumarium L. (XS) fruit is widely used in East Asian traditional medicine. However, current pharmacopeial standards primarily recognize Chinese‐derived material, despite the availability and traditional use of

Dual Antiviral and Immunomodulatory Effects of Phytochemicals in Influenza A Virus Infection: Targeting Key Host Signaling Pathways

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Influenza A virus modulates host innate immune pathways, including TLR, RIG‐I, MAPK, and NF‐κB signaling, to support replication and drive inflammatory pathology. Plant‐derived phytocompounds target these interconnected pathways, offering a potential host‐directed immunomodulatory approach complementary to conventional antivirals.

Metabolization of Flavan‐3‐ol Oligomers by Eggerthella lenta, a Human Gut Bacterium

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 19, 15 October 2026.
Novel human gut bacterial strains were isolated and characterized for their ability to metabolize flavan‐3‐ols. While Eggerthella lenta and Flavonifractor plautii metabolized flavan‐3‐ol monomers, only E. lenta converted B‐ and A‐type procyanidins, demonstrating that this gut bacterium can metabolize flavan‐3‐ol oligomers.
