Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Extracellular cleavage of E-cadherin promotes epithelial cell extrusion [PDF]

Epithelial cell extrusion and subsequent apoptosis is a key mechanism to prevent accumulation of excess cells. Conversely, when driven by oncogene expression, apical cell extrusion is followed by proliferation and represents an initial step of tumorigenesis.

The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

PALS1 Regulates E-Cadherin Trafficking in Mammalian Epithelial Cells [PDF]

Protein Associated with Lin Seven 1 (PALS1) is an evolutionarily conserved scaffold protein that targets to the tight junction in mammalian epithelia.
