Use of Ionic Liquids and Co-Solvents for Synthesis of Thin-Film Composite Membranes

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Polyamide (PA) thin-film composite (TFC) membranes are commonly applied in reversed osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) applications due to their thin, dense top-layer, and high selectivity. Recently, the conventional organic phase (i.e., hexane) during

Chemical looping epoxidation

open access: yesJournal of Catalysis, 2018
Chemical looping epoxidation of ethylene was demonstrated, whereby the sole oxidant was a solid oxygen carrier, 15 wt% Ag supported on SrFeO3. Ethylene reacted with a bed of carrier particles, without any O2(g) in the feed, to produce ethylene oxide (EO) and CO2.

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides an overview of recent advances in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for photocatalysis, focusing on sustainable energy applications like water splitting, hydrogen peroxide generation, and CO2 and N2 reduction. It discusses design principles, structure‐function relationships, challenges in COF photocatalysis, and strategies to ...

Molecular Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of 2-Hydroxy-3-Chrysino Dithiocarbamate Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
A series of 2-hydroxy-3-chrysino dithiocarbamate derivatives (3a−k) were designed, synthesized, and characterized for their structure determination by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and HRMS (ESI) spectral data.

Structure and Chemistry of Graphene Oxide in Liquid Water from First Principles [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020, 11, 1566, 2019
Graphene oxide is a rising star among 2D materials, yet its interaction with liquid water remains a fundamentally open question: experimental characterization at the atomic scale is difficult, and modelling by classical approaches cannot properly describe chemical reactivity.

Supramolecular Chemistry in Metal–Organic Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights synergies between reticular chemistry and supramolecular chemistry. The role of supramolecular interactions in determining framework…guest interactions and attempts to understand dynamic behavior in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), particularly emphasizing the development of crystal sponges, studying reactions in frameworks and ...

Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of New 1,2,3-Selenadiazoles

open access: yesMolecules, 2008
The commercially available aromatic polyketones 1a-d were utilized for the synthesis of the multi-arm1,2,3-selenadiazole derivatives 3a-d. The preparation starts with the reaction between compounds 1a-d and p-toluenesulfonyl hydrazide to give the ...

Ag-Cu alloy surfaces in an oxidizing environment: a first-principles study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Recent experiments on model catalysts have shown that Ag-Cu alloys have improved selectivity with respect to pure silver for ethylene epoxidation. In this paper we review our first-principles investigations on the (111) surface of this alloy and present new findings on other low index surfaces.

Divinylglycol, a Glycerol-Based Monomer: Valorization, Properties, and Applications [PDF]

open access: yesGreen Polymer Chemistry: New Products, Processes, and Applications, pp.299-330, 2018, 2019
In the context of the development of bio-refineries, glycerol and its derivatives are co-products of the oleochemistry for which new valorization routes must be found. In this study, the polymerizability of divinylglycol (DVG), a symmetrical C-6 glycerol derivative which bears a vicinal diol and two vinyl functions was studied.
