The Subfield Codes of Hyperoval and Conic codes [PDF]

open access: yesFinite Fields Their Appl., 2018
Hyperovals in $\PG(2,\gf(q))$ with even $q$ are maximal arcs and an interesting research topic in finite geometries and combinatorics. Hyperovals in $\PG(2,\gf(q))$ are equivalent to $[q+2,3,q]$ MDS codes over $\gf(q)$, called hyperoval codes, in the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Design of Glass for High, Short Duration Wind Loads

open access: yesChallenging Glass Conference Proceedings, 2010
This paper describes a case study for the design of structural glazed IGUs for the New Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland, which is subjected to high local wind loads of approximately 10kN/m2, with a load duration of approximately 0.1s. The paper focuses

Rank equivalent and rank degenerate skew cyclic codes

open access: yes, 2016
Two skew cyclic codes can be equivalent for the Hamming metric only if they have the same length, and only the zero code is degenerate. The situation is completely different for the rank metric, where lengths of codes correspond to the number of outgoing

Measuring embodied carbon dioxide equivalent of buildings: A review and critique of current industry practice

open access: yes, 2017
Lowering the embodied carbon dioxide equivalent (embodied CO2e) of buildings is an essential response to national and global targets for carbon reduction. Globally, construction industry is developing tools, databases and practices for measuring embodied

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Equivalent uniform live loads under transit vehicles for floor slab of long-span urban transportation hubs

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2021
Rapid development of long-span urban transportation hubs arouses higher requirements of structural design methods. However, the current design codes do not give effective provisions of the equivalent uniform live load for long-span transportation hubs. A

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A Code Equivalence between Secure Network and Index Coding

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
A code equivalence between index coding and network coding was established, which shows that any index-coding instance can be mapped to a network-coding instance, for which any index code can be translated to a network code with the same decoding-error performance, and vice versa.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
