Non-standard sequences

open access: yesМатематичні Студії
The paper shows the existence of a previously unknown relationship between the theory of monoids and category theory. A non-standard mathematical method based on terms from non-standard (not always existing) sequences is proposed.

Hospital Readmission After Traumatic Brain Injury Hospitalization in Community‐Dwelling Older Adults

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the risk of hospital readmission after an index hospitalization for TBI in older adults. Methods Using data from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, we used propensity score matching of individuals with an index TBI‐related hospitalization to individuals with (1) non‐TBI hospitalizations (primary analysis)

Statements of equivalence can imply differences: Asymmetries in directional comparisons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Directional comparisons are often used to express similarity (e.g., “North Korea is like China”). These statements, however, frame the subject as the less typical figure and the complement as the more typical or prominent ground. Thus, despite expressing similarity, directional comparisons may imply that the ground is more representative.

Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

Geometrisation of Ohm’s reciprocity relation in a holographic plasma

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
It has been recently pointed out that the familiar reciprocity relation between the conductivity σ and resistivity ρ, which I refer to as Ohm’s reciprocity relation, should not be expected to hold in all possible settings, but is rather a property that ...

Prognostic Implications of Sleep Architecture for Patients Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit With Status Epilepticus

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Status epilepticus (SE) is associated with significant mortality. Sleep architecture may reflect normal brain function. Impaired sleep architecture is associated with poorer outcomes in numerous conditions. Here we investigate the association of sleep architecture in continuous EEG (cEEG) with survival in SE.

E. Wirsing setted up a problem in 1967 year: Is it possible to reduce the estimation ∑n≤xf(n)=o(xlogx∑n≤xf(n)n),x→∞\eqno(1) from the estimation ∑p≤xf(p)logpp=o(logx),x→∞.\eqno(2) Here n is a positive enteger, p is a prime number.

On the Gibbs-Liouville theorem in classical mechanics

open access: yes, 2019
In this article, it is argued that the Gibbs-Liouville theorem is a mathematical representation of the statement that closed classical systems evolve deterministically.

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.
