On Corrected Quadrature Rules and Optimal Error Bounds

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2015
We present an analysis of corrected quadrature rules based on the method of undetermined coefficients and its associated degree of accuracy. The correcting terms use weighted values of the first derivative of the function at the endpoint of the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A two-dimensional, two-sided Euler inversion algorithm with computable error bounds and its financial applications

open access: yesStochastic Systems, 2015
In this paper we propose an inversion algorithm with computable error bounds for two-dimensional, two-sided Laplace transforms. The algorithm consists of two discretization parameters and two truncation parameters.

Total variation error bounds for geometric approximation

open access: yes, 2013
We develop a new formulation of Stein's method to obtain computable upper bounds on the total variation distance between the geometric distribution and a distribution of interest.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Error Bounds: Necessary and Sufficient Conditions

open access: yesSet-Valued and Variational Analysis, 2010
The paper presents a general classification scheme of necessary and sufficient criteria for the error bound property incorporating the existing conditions. Several derivative-like objects both from the primal as well as from the dual space are used to characterize the error bound property of extended-real-valued functions on a Banach space.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

New global error bound for extended linear complementarity problems

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2018
For the extended linear complementarity problem (ELCP), by virtue of a new residual function, we establish a new type of global error bound under weaker conditions.
