An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

On Corrected Quadrature Rules and Optimal Error Bounds

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2015
We present an analysis of corrected quadrature rules based on the method of undetermined coefficients and its associated degree of accuracy. The correcting terms use weighted values of the first derivative of the function at the endpoint of the ...

Graph summarization with bounded error [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2008 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data, 2008
We propose a highly compact two-part representation of a given graph G consisting of a graph summary and a set of corrections. The graph summary is an aggregate graph in which each node corresponds to a set of nodes in G, and each edge represents the edges between all pair of nodes in the two sets.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Nonasymptotic bounds on the mean square error for MCMC estimates via renewal techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Nummellin’s split chain construction allows to decompose a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) trajectory into i.i.d. "excursions". Regenerative MCMC algorithms based on this technique use a random number of samples.

Dimension-adaptive bounds on compressive FLD Classification

open access: yes, 2013
Efficient dimensionality reduction by random projections (RP) gains popularity, hence the learning guarantees achievable in RP spaces are of great interest.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A two-dimensional, two-sided Euler inversion algorithm with computable error bounds and its financial applications

open access: yesStochastic Systems, 2015
In this paper we propose an inversion algorithm with computable error bounds for two-dimensional, two-sided Laplace transforms. The algorithm consists of two discretization parameters and two truncation parameters.

MSE lower bounds for deterministic parameter estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a simple approach for deriving computable lower bounds on the MSE of deterministic parameter estimators with a clear interpretation of the bounds.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
