Design for Resilience to Soft Errors and Variations

13th IEEE International On-Line Testing Symposium (IOLTS 2007), 2007
This paper presents adaptive variation-and-error-resilient agent (AVERA), an approach to address the challenge of designing reliable systems in the presence of soft errors and variations. AVERA extends our previous built-in soft error resilience (BISER) approach by adding additional capabilities to support process variation diagnosis, degradation ...

Extending source codes for error resilience

Data Compression Conference, 2003. Proceedings. DCC 2003, 2003
A form of combined source-channel coding is investigated in which error resilient source codes replace the typical concatenation of compression with channel coding. When very low bit rate transmission over poor quality channels, low coding complexity, or partial decoding of the source is required, these codes can outperform the traditional concatenated

Rethinking error injection for effective resilience

2014 19th Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference (ASP-DAC), 2014
Soft errors, caused by radiation, have become a major challenge in today's computer systems and networking equipment, making it imperative that systems be designed to be resilient to errors. Error injection is a powerful approach to evaluate system resilience, and current practice is to inject errors in architectural registers of processors, program ...

Error-Resilient Multiple Description Coding

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2008
In the multiple description coding (MDC), the source is decomposed into two or more descriptions, and then transmitted over on/off channels. At the receiver end, each description can be reproduced with acceptable side distortion; reconstructed signals with lower central distortion can be accomplished by exploiting more descriptions.

Dealing with the Unknown: Resilience to Prediction Errors

2015 International Conference on Parallel Architecture and Compilation (PACT), 2015
Accurate prediction of applications' performanceand functional behavior is a critical component for a widerange of tools, including anomaly detection, task scheduling and approximate computing. Statistical modeling is a very powerful approach for making such predictions and it uses observations of application behavior on a small number of training ...
