Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Peroxiredoxin 2: An Important Element of the Antioxidant Defense of the Erythrocyte
Peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2) is the third most abundant erythrocyte protein. It was known previously as calpromotin since its binding to the membrane stimulates the calcium-dependent potassium channel.

On the Shape of the Erythrocyte
A model is postulated which attributes the distinctive biconcave shape of the human erythrocyte to a balance of forces acting on the membrane. The forces considered are electrostatic forces due to a charge distribution on the membrane, a hydrostatic pressure difference acting across the membrane, and forces arising from a constant tension in the ...

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Improvement of major depression is associated with increased erythrocyte DHA
The aim of this study was to determine if changes in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid status following tuna oil supplementation correlated with changes in scores of depression.

Effect of Thioridazine on Erythrocytes [PDF]
Background: Thioridazine, a neuroleptic phenothiazine with antimicrobial efficacy is known to trigger anemia. At least in theory, the anemia could result from stimulation of suicidal erythrocyte death or eryptosis, which is characterized by cell shrinkage and by phospholipid scrambling of the cell membrane with phosphatidylserine exposure at the ...

ABSTRACT Objective Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before thrombectomy for ischemic stroke may alter clot structure and procedural performance. We investigated how IVT relates to thrombectomy metrics across stroke etiologies. Methods We performed a time‐to‐event analysis of consecutive patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (acLVO ...

Structural Alterations of Human Erythrocytes Induced by Minocycline
The non-antibacterial effects of the tetracycline antibiotic minocycline on human erythrocytes are currently under investigation. Our data indicate alterations in the surface structure of erythrocytes; the antibiotic promotes the redistribution of ...
