Increased erythrocyte aggregation in patients with primary open angle glaucoma

open access: yes, 2016
Background: The rationale of this study is to determine alterations in blood rheology (erythrocyte aggregation and deformability) and relationship between structural measurements obtained from optical coherence tomography (OCT) in different stages of ...

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

A mathematical model of fibrinogen-mediated erythrocyte-erythrocyte adhesion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Erythrocytes are deformable cells that undergo progressive biophysical and biochemical changes affecting the normal blood flow. Fibrinogen, one of the most abundant plasma proteins, is a primary determinant for changes in haemorheological properties, and

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Influence of acute-phase proteins on erythrocyte aggregation

open access: yes, 1996
With the exception of fibrinogen, immunoglobulins, and albumin, little information is available on the effect of acute-phase proteins on erythrocyte aggregation.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Effects of swimming on erythrocyte rheological properties

open access: yes, 2010
Exercise and lactate usually change blood rheology but, effect of swimming on blood rheology is not clear. Blood lactate concentration increases after 400-meter freestyle swimming.

Hemocompatibility of magnetic magnethite nanoparticles and magnetite-silica composites in vitro

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2018
The goal of the present research is to study the hemocompatibility of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)  in model systems in vitro.Materials and methods. Magnetite nanoparticles and magnetite colloidal solutions were used in 0.9% NaCl in concentrations 0.2 ...

Hydrogen Gas Inhalation Prevents Erythrocyte Aggregation and Promotes Leukocyte Phagocytosis Together with Increases in Serum Antioxidant Activity

open access: yesHydrogen, 2022
Hydrogen gas inhalation has not yet been elucidated to improve blood behaviors or antioxidant activity in blood. In the present study, the PEM (proton-exchange-membrane)-/platinum-plated electrode-equipped electrolyzer was examined as a hydrogen gas ...

A colorimetric process to visualize erythrocyte exovesicles aggregates* [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, 2004
AbstractA biochemistry laboratory class protocol is described in order to create an opportunity for students to apply by doing the theoretical concepts underlying biomolecules and vesicles properties, together with the principles of centrifugation and colorimetric methodologies.
