Zeta Sedimentation Ratio (ZSR), A Replacement for the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1975
The zeta sedimentation ratio (ZRS) was evaluated and found to have advantages over the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The normal range for the ZSR proved to be 41 to 54%. Elevated ESR's obtained with the modified Westergren technic were also associated with an increased ZSR, except when amenia spuriously elevated the ESR.

How to assess high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in elderly?

Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, 2010
The ESR is commonly used to assess the acute phase response. It is most useful among patients in whom the probability of disease is moderate following initial history-taking and examination. In this study, we examined retrospectively the patients admitted to our hospital to lighten the cause of a high ESR and accompanying anemia and compared the ...

THE MORPHOLOGY OF THE ERYTHROCYTE SEDIMENTATION RATE (ESR)

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1971
Abstract. Erythrocytes in normal autologous plasma formed rouleaux, which increased in speed and degree with the cell concentration, forming a fine‐meshed network of rouleaux at high cell concentrations. In cases of pathologically or artificially induced elevation of the sedimentation rate, a qualitative change of the red cell interaction has been ...

Contact with glass interferes with the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

2003 IEEE 29th Annual Proceedings of Bioengineering Conference, 2003
The sedimentation rate (sed rate), also called, the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) is a blood test for inflammation in the body. If it is elevated, then there is an inflammatory process in the body which can be monitored. The test is broad and non-specific; however, it may determine the effectiveness of therapy for the inflammatory condition.

THE MECHANISM OF THE ERYTHROCYTE SEDIMENTATION RATE (ESR)

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1971
Abstract. The relation between the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and aggregation has been studied by applying different aggregating substances. In normal autologous plasma the ESR increased with the cell concentration due to increased rouleaux formation reaching a maximum size of ESR.

Evaluation of the ESR fast detector and Improve® ESR analyzer as modified Westergren methods for erythrocyte sedimentation rate

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2022
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) has been commonly ordered in hematology laboratories and used to screen for monitoring responses to therapy and identifying inflammatory conditions. To overcome the limitations of traditional ESR measurements, various methods have been developed and compared to the established reference method.

Internal quality control used for erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) by australasian laboratories

Pathology, 2015
Aim This study was performed as part of the investigation of the wide variation in results in the RCPAQAP Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) module with the aim of determining the types of internal quality control used for ESR by participating laboratories and whether this might contribute to the variation seen in the survey results.

Study of seasonal behavior in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

Chronobiologia, 1994
The ESR is used as a common human clinical laboratory test which allows identification in the presence and intensity of active pathologies. In this paper, the seasonality of the variable was described and modelled. Monthly means and medians of a transformation of this variable were used.

An equation relating erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) to hematocrit (HCT) and its implication

Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation, 1988
ESR was greatly influenced by Hct, which caused ESR to lose its original meaning and accuracy. In order to avoid the interference, an equation relating ESR to Hct was derived as ESR = − K ( ln H

A Comparison Between Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and Selected Acute-Phase Proteins in the Elderly

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1990
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and selected acute-phase proteins (APPs) were studied in 101 elderly people (mean age, 72 years) to determine their utility as diagnostic aids in subjects with underlying infections or inflammation. ESR and values for serum immunoglobulin A (IgA), the fourth component of complement (C4), haptoglobin, and alpha-1-
