On Weyl sums for smaller exponents

open access: yes, 2012
We present a hybrid approach to bounding exponential sums over kth powers via Vinogradov's mean value theorem, and derive estimates of utility for exponents k of intermediate ...

Grain Refinement During Severe Plastic Deformation and Similitude of Subgrain Formation: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics is used to investigate structure refinement during severe plastic deformation. The results show similitude with experimental data. Molecular dynamics simulations of severe plastic deformation of monocrystalline and polycrystalline samples by multiaxial compression of aluminum are carried out.

Transformation formula for exponential sums involving fourier coefficients of modular forms

open access: yes, 1993
In 1984 Jutila [5] obtained a transformation formula for certain exponential sums involving the Fourier coefficients of a holomorphic cusp form for the full modular group SL(2, Z).

Distribution of alternative power sums and Euler polynomials modulo a prime

open access: yes, 2012
For a fixed integer s≥2, we estimate exponential sums with alternative power sums As(n)=∑i=0n(−1)iis individually and on average, where As(n) is computed modulo p.

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

Partial zeta functions, partial exponential sums, and p-adic estimates

open access: yes, 2022
Partial zeta functions of algebraic varieties over finite fields generalize the classical zeta function by allowing each variable to be defined over a possibly different extension field of a fixed finite field.

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Explicit Bounds on Exponential Sums and the Scarcity of Squarefree Binomial Coefficients

open access: yes, 1996
This paper fills what we believe to be a lacuna in the existing literature concerning upper bounds on exponential sums. Although it has always been evident that many of the known estimates can be made explicit, it is a non-trivial problem to actually do ...

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries
