Evaluation of Plasticity and Creep Parameters From Tensile Stress–Strain Data for a Range of Strain Rates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This plot compares experimental tensile stress–strain curves (with 4 different strain rates) and corresponding modelled curves (obtained using the optimised sets of Voce and Miller–Norton parameter values shown). The inferred M‐N values, characterizing the creep, are very similar to those obtained via conventional creep testing.

On sums of squares of primes II

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we continue our study, begun in G. Harman and A.V. Kumchev (2006) [10], of the exceptional set of integers, not restricted by elementary congruence conditions, which cannot be represented as sums of three or four squares of primes.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

On Some Applications of a Generalized Dwork Trace Formula to L-functions associated to Exponential Sums over Galois Rings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
University of Minnesota Ph.D. dissertation. July 2018. Major: Mathematics. Advisor: Steven Sperber. 1 computer file (PDF); xv, 219 pages.Dwork’s trace formula is a seminal result proven by Bernard Dwork [Dwo60] (Section 2: Lemma 2), and it is one of the ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Explicit Estimates for Incomplete Exponential Sums

open access: yes
Summary: We obtain explicit estimates for the incomplete exponential sum \[ S_p(f, B) := \sum_{x = 1}^B e_p(f(x)), \] where \(e_p(u) = \mathrm{e}^{2\pi iu/p}\), \(f(x)\) is a polynomial over \(\mathbb{Z}/(p)\), and \(1 \leq B \leq p\), such as the following. For any \(f\) of degree at least 2, \[ |S_p(f, B)| \leq \min\left\{\frac{2}{\pi}\log p + 3.29 +

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.
