Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Triangular and Polygonal Distributions

open access: yes, 2016
Triangular distributions are a well-known class of distributions that are often used as elementary example of a probability model. In the past, enumeration and order statistic-based methods have been suggested for the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

The Estimation Distribution Algorithm for the Blocking Job Shop Scheduling Problem

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The blocking job shop problem (BJSSP) is a variant of the classical job shop problem, where a job completed on one machine cannot be transferred to the next machine until the latter becomes available, causing the current machine to remain blocked.

Bridge Simulation and Metric Estimation on Landmark Manifolds

open access: yes, 2017
We present an inference algorithm and connected Monte Carlo based estimation procedures for metric estimation from landmark configurations distributed according to the transition distribution of a Riemannian Brownian motion arising from the Large ...

A review of estimation of distribution algorithms in bioinformatics [PDF]

open access: yesBioData Mining, 2008
Evolutionary search algorithms have become an essential asset in the algorithmic toolbox for solving high-dimensional optimization problems in across a broad range of bioinformatics problems. Genetic algorithms, the most well-known and representative evolutionary search technique, have been the subject of the major part of such applications. Estimation

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Algorithm for the cloud service workflow scheduling with setup time and deadline constraints

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2015
Cost minimization with deadline constraints and setup time is a new resource allocation optimization problem in cloud computing. An integer programming model is constructed for this NP-hard problem.A novel probability model and updating mechanism is ...

General Univariate Estimation-of-Distribution Algorithms

open access: yes, 2022
We propose a general formulation of a univariate estimation-of-distribution algorithm (EDA). It naturally incorporates the three classic univariate EDAs \emph{compact genetic algorithm}, \emph{univariate marginal distribution algorithm} and \emph{population-based incremental learning} as well as the \emph{max-min ant system} with iteration-best update.

Fast Parabola Detection Using Estimation of Distribution Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine, 2017
This paper presents a new method based on Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDAs) to detect parabolic shapes in synthetic and medical images. The method computes a virtual parabola using three random boundary pixels to calculate the constant values of the generic parabola equation.

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.
