Ethyl glucuronide in hair: is it a reliable marker of chronic high levels of alcohol consumption? [PDF]

open access: yesAddiction, 2006
Aims: This study aims to investigate the relationship between ethanol daily intake (EDI) and the levels of ethyl glucuronide in hair. Design: Ethyl glucuronide concentration was determined in hair samples from different classes of ethanol drinkers and ...

In vitro study of bacterial degradation of ethyl glucuronide and ethyl sulphate

International Journal of Legal Medicine, 2008
Recent studies show that ethyl glucuronide (EtG) can be decomposed by bacteria; whilst so far no degradation of ethyl sulphate (EtS) has been observed. In the present study, in vitro experiments with bacterial colonies were performed. Bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Clostridium sordellii) were isolated from autopsy material (liver ...

Glucuronic acid and the ethanol metabolite ethyl-glucuronide cause toll-like receptor 4 activation and enhanced pain

open access: yesBrain, Behavior, and Immunity, 2013
We have previously observed that the non-opioid morphine metabolite, morphine-3-glucuronide, enhances pain via a toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) dependent mechanism.

Analysis and Interpretation of Specific Ethanol Metabolites, Ethyl Sulfate, and Ethyl Glucuronide in Sewage Effluent for the Quantitative Measurement of Regional Alcohol Consumption

open access: yesAlcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 2011
Background: The quantitative measurement of urinary metabolites in sewage streams and the subsequent estimation of consumption rates of the parent compounds have previously been demonstrated for pharmaceuticals and narcotics.

Quantitative Determination of Ethyl Glucuronide in Sweat

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 2008
In this study, ethyl glucuronide (EtG), a specific metabolite of ethanol, was for the first time detected in sweat after alcohol consumption by human volunteers. Sweat was collected using a sweat patch (PharmChek). After collection, chemicals accumulated on the patch were extracted with water and extracts were purified by solid phase extraction.

Ethyl glucuronide hair testing: A review

Forensic Science International, 2019
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a minor, non-oxidative ethanol metabolite that can be detected in several matrices (e.g. blood, urine, hair, meconium) for variable periods of time. Quantification of EtG in hair (hEtG) has established itself, over recent years, as one of the most reliable biomarkers of long-term alcohol consumption habits, with the Society ...
