O16: Ethyl glucuronide in plant extracts
Toxicologie Analytique et Clinique, 2014Introduction The specificity of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in hair as marker of alcohol consumption exceeds by far those of fatty acid ethyl esters. False positive cases are therefore very rare but not excluded as recent publications have shown.

Ethyl glucuronide and ethyl sulfate in the zebrafish after ethanol exposure
AlcoholEthanol exposure during pregnancy is an important problem and is the cause of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). The etiology of FAS and FASD can be elucidated using animal models. Recently, a novel model, the zebrafish (Danio rerio), has garnered the interest of researchers.

AbstractIn recent years, fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) and ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in meconium emerged as reliable, direct biological markers for establishing gestational ethanol exposure. We investigated whether EtG in maternal hair measured during the three trimesters of pregnancy correlated with EtG and FAEEs in neonatal meconium. In a prospective ...

Effect of bleaching on ethyl glucuronide in hair: An in vitro experiment
Forensic Science International, 2010Ethyl glucuronide in hair (HEtG) has recently gained great attention, because of its high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of chronic alcohol abuse. Due to its high polarity hydrophilicity, a strong hair treatment followed by a shampooing may lead to removal/degradation of this molecule from hair matrix. To set up an in vitro study in order ...

Segmental determination of ethyl glucuronide in hair: A pilot study
Forensic Science International, 2007Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a minor metabolite of ethanol. Its detection in hair is more and more studied in both clinical and forensic context for the purpose of alcohol abuse monitoring. In this pilot study, hair specimens from 15 patients included in a treatment program after alcohol abuse cessation, were segmented and analyzed for EtG.

Ethyl Glucuronide Concentration in Hair of Detainees: A Preliminary Study
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2019AbstractThrough the measurement of ethyl glucuronide in hair (hETG), it is possible to assess chronic alcohol abuse over time. In this paper, we present a study on hETG in Italian prison inmates. Analyses were performed by LC‐MS according to a previously published method.

A kinetic model describing the pharmacokinetics of ethyl glucuronide in humans
Forensic Science International, 2002The glucuronide conjugation is a minor pathway of ethanol metabolism. The determination of ethyl glucuronide (EG) in serum and urine has gained importance in forensic and other legal decisions. To prospectively calculate the serum concentration of this non-oxidative ethanol metabolite, the computer program developed includes a parameter fitting routine.

Ethyl glucuronide—a biological marker for recent alcohol consumption
Addiction Biology, 2001AbstractEthyl glucuronide (EtG) is a non‐volatile, water‐soluble metabolite of ethanol, with a high storage stability. It can be detected in body fluids, tissues, sweat and hair for an extended time period after the elimination of ethanol from the body.

Clinical Application of Ethyl Glucuronide Testing in the U.S. Army
Journal of Addictive Diseases, 2010This study examined the clinical characteristics of ethyl glucuronide testing among service members referred to a military substance abuse program. The authors analyzed 1,852 urine specimens from 328 service members collected over a two year period.

Ethyl glucuronide in hair and alcohol misuse
2011Alcohol misuse is a global challenge accounting to many loss of lives and to significant economical costs. Generally, traditional alcohol markers have low alcohol specificity, resulting both in false positives due to a number of physiological disorders and in false negative diagnosis due to their poor sensitivities.
