A Spatial Five-Bar Linkage as a Tilting Joint of the Breeding Blanket Transporter for the Remote Maintenance of EU DEMO

open access: yesMachines
The future fusion power plant EU DEMO will generate its own tritium fuel through the use of segmented breeding blankets (BBs), which must be replaced from time to time due to material damage caused by high-energy neutrons from the plasma.

Impact of the plasma operation on the technical requirements in EU-DEMO

open access: yesFusion Engineering and Design, 2022
The plasma design point during stationary phase operation of EU-DEMO has been described extensively in the past, and the assumptions employed for its definition have been supported by various investigations. However, a stationary snapshot is by far not sufficient to ensure the actual operability of the plasma scenario.

Thermomechanical and Thermofluid-Dynamic Coupled Analysis of the Top Cap Region of the Water-Cooled Lithium Lead Breeding Blanket for the EU DEMO Fusion Reactor

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In the EU, the Water-Cooled Lithium Lead (WCLL) Breeding Blanket (BB) concept is one of the candidates for the design of the DEMO reactor. From the past campaign of analysis emerged that the thermal-induced stress led to the failure in the verification ...

Optimizing the EU-DEMO pellet fuelling scheme

open access: yesFusion Engineering and Design, 2020
Efficient fuelling will be an essential task in the EU-DEMO. The basic requirement here is to establish the target plasma core density with a minimum particle flux by injecting mm-size solid fuel pellets. Modelling showed this requires a pellet launch from the vessel inboard.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Health‐Related Social Needs in Children With Sickle Cell Disease Are Associated With Worse Health‐Related Quality of Life

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) face multiple acute and chronic medical complications that may impact their quality of life as reported by patients themselves. Health‐related social needs (HRSNs), such as food and housing insecurity, are common in people with SCD, but the association between HRSNs and patient‐reported ...

Cup‐Like Nuclei Is a Hallmark of DUX4/ERG Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Reveals Cytoplasmic Mitochondria Accumulation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cup‐like nuclei are a distinctive morphological feature observed in certain cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). We provide evidence that they characterize DUX4/ERG ALL independently of IKZF1 deletion and reveal marked mitochondrial accumulation in this ALL subset.

Genomic Diversity and Clinical Variability in Pediatric Primary Cutaneous Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: A Case Series

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL) is a rare pediatric CD30‐positive T‐cell lymphoproliferative disorder with an excellent prognosis, but its genomic drivers are poorly defined. We report three children with skin‐limited disease demonstrating striking molecular heterogeneity, including NPM::ALK, NUP214::FRK, and a novel ...

The Combined Effect of Obesity and Contraceptive Use on Pulmonary Embolism in Adolescent Females Residing in the United States

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Combined oral contraceptive (COC) use in obese adult women dramatically increases the relative risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (PE). The risk of a PE in obese adolescent females taking contraceptives is currently unknown. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) and contraceptive
