Eukaryotic Cell–Cell Fusion Families
2011Abstract The capacity of cells to unite in a regulated fashion, through fusion of their plasma membranes, is essential for reproduction and development in eukaryotes. Yet, the majority of proteins that mediate this process (i.e. fusogens) remain unidentified or uncharacterized.

Regulation of the Cell Cycle in Eukaryotic Cells
1981Publisher Summary This chapter examines several models and mechanisms that are proposed to describe the regulation of the cell cycle in eukaryotic cells. It discusses how cell growth is coordinated with cell division and how entry into S phase is controlled in cycling cells.

The evolution of the cilium and the eukaryotic cell
Cell Motility, 2009Abstract The Cilium, the Nucleus and the Mitochondrion are three important organelles whose evolutionary histories are intimately related to the evolution and origin of the eukaryotic cell. The cilium is involved in motility and sensory transduction. The cilium is only found in the eukaryotic cells.

Transcriptional Regulation In Eukaryotic Cells
1972Publisher Summary This chapter provides the theories of transcriptional regulation in eukaryotic cells. Current ideas about the mechanisms involved in differentiation have been very much influenced by the studies on the regulation of protein synthesis both in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

Gonococcal Attachment to Eukaryotic Cells
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 1983The attachment of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to eukaryotic cells grown in tissue culture was analyzed by use of light and electron microscopy and by labeling of the bacteria with [3H]- and [14C]adenine. Isogenic piliated and nonpiliated N. gonorrhoeae from opaque and transparent colonies were studied.

Abstract Eukaryotes include all organisms that are not bacteria (prokaryotes = eubacteria + archaebacteria). The eukaryotes include the three large groups of multicellular organ isms. That is, animals, (vascular) plants, and the higher fungi plus a large number of rather unrelated groups of unicellular organisms often referred to as ...

Synaptic view of eukaryotic cell
International Journal of General Systems, 2014Synapses are stable adhesive domains between two neighbouring cells of the multicellular organisms which serve for cell–cell communication as well as for information processing and storing. The synaptic concept was developed over more than 100 years specifically for neuronal cell–cell communication.

Chemotaxis Assays for Eukaryotic Cells
Current Protocols in Cell Biology, 1998AbstractChemotaxis is a complex response of a cell to an external stimulus. It involves detecting and measuring the concentration of the chemoattractant, biochemical transmission of the information, and the motility and adhesive changes associated with the response.

FORCED SYNCHRONIZATION OF EUKARYOTIC CELLS
Modern Physics Letters B, 2007A comprehensive mathematical model of the budding yeast cell cycle, accounting for several dozen published experiments, has thirty five variables and one hundred and forty parameters.5 Detailed models describing cell cycle regulation in other organisms have also a large number of variables and parameters.

DNA‐Modification of Eukaryotic Cells
Small, 2012AbstractA novel bioorthogonal method for the modification of cells with single‐stranded DNA oligomers is compared to five alternative methods with respect to labeling efficacy, specificity, and effects on cell viability. The new method is based on oxime ligation of aminooxybiotin to aldehyde groups installed by periodate cleavage of cell‐surface ...
