Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Scaling limits of non-isentropic Euler-Maxwell equations for plasmas

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2011
In this paper, we will discuss asymptotic limit of non-isentropic compressible Euler-Maxwell system arising from plasma physics. Formally, we give some different limit systems according to the corresponding different scalings.

PART I – USUAL PROBLEMS OF OPTIMIZING THE ACTION SYSTEMS OFTHE BAND TRANSPORTERS [PDF]

open access: yesFiabilitate şi Durabilitate, 2012
Most of the systems of electric action are non-linear systems, including the continuous transportsystems with band, that could be brought by linearization and negligence at the linear system.

Seedless One‐Pot Synthesis of Colloidal InAs Quantum Dots Enabling a High‐Accuracy Photoplethysmography Oximeter

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A real‐time, non‐contact photoplethysmography (PPG) system based on InAs colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) synthesized via a seedless injection synthesis is demonstrated. The measured oxygen saturation shows considerable agreement with commercial PPG devices.

Circular Distributions and Euler Systems, II [PDF]

open access: yesCompositio Mathematica, 2003
The purpose of this paper is to investigate a conjecture about the universality of the circular distribution made by Robert Coleman. The algebraic property of the universal distribution is the main ingredient in studying Euler system of Kolyvagin and Rubin.

Recognising Sketches of Euler Diagrams Augmented with Graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Euler diagrams form the basis of many visual languages. Such languages are formed by augmenting Euler diagrams with graphs or shading. However, tool support for creating augmented Euler diagrams is generally limited to generic diagram editing software ...

Almost sure exponential stability of backward Euler–Maruyama discretizations for hybrid stochastic differential equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This is a continuation of the first author's earlier paper [1] jointly with Pang and Deng, in which the authors established some sufficient conditions under which the Euler-Maruyama (EM) method can reproduce the almost sure exponential stability of the ...

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

A Data‐Driven Inverse Design Methodology for Magnetic Soft Millirobots Navigating in Confined Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A data‐efficient inverse design framework automates the optimization of magnetic soft millirobots for confined‐space navigation. Integrating a physics‐based Cosserat rod model with Bayesian optimization efficiently identifies high‐performance geometries.

Extra Climate Benefits From Afforestation Due to Reduced Forest Fragmentation in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Afforestation in China reduced forest fragmentation in 2015, transforming 51.8 M ha of edge forests into interior forests. This enhanced carbon sequestration (1.4±0.2 Pg CO2e, a cooling biogeochemical effect), while reduced albedo (−0.9 Pg CO2e, a warming biophysical effect) partially offset the gain, yielding a net extra climate benefit of ...
