Drawing Euler Diagrams with Circles and Ellipses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The use of Euler diagrams as a basis for visual languages is commonplace and they are often used for visualizing information. The ability to automatically draw these diagrams is, therefore, likely to be of widespread practical use.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Comparative Study of Discretization Methods for Non-Ideal Proportional-Resonant Controllers in Voltage Regulation of Three-Phase Four-Wire Converters with Vehicle-to-Home Mode

open access: yesWorld Electric Vehicle Journal
Vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology enables electric vehicles (EVs) to supply power to residential loads, offering enhanced energy self-sufficiency and backup capabilities. Accurate voltage regulation is essential in such systems, especially under nonlinear

Smooth, Singularity-Free, Finite-Time Tracking Control for Euler–Lagrange Systems

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
This paper investigates the problem of constrained finite-time tracking control of Euler–Lagrange systems subject to system uncertainties and external disturbances. Firstly, we introduce a nonsingular, fast, constrained terminal sliding manifold (NFCTSM)

Wellformedness properties in Euler diagrams: which should be used? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Euler diagrams are often used to visualize intersecting data sets in applications such as criminology; genetics, medicine, and computer file systems. One interesting aspect of these diagrams is that some data sets cannot be drawn without breaking one or ...

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Dissipation and controlled Euler-Poincare systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 40th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. No.01CH37228), 2002
The method of controlled Lagrangians is a technique for stabilizing underactuated mechanical systems which involves modifying a system's energy and dynamic structure through feedback. These modifications can obscure the effect of physical dissipation in the closed-loop.

Low Mach Asymptotic Preserving Scheme for the Euler-Korteweg Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present an all speed scheme for the Euler-Korteweg model. We study a semi-implicit time-discretisation which treats the terms, which are stiff for low Mach numbers, implicitly and thereby avoids a dependence of the timestep restriction on the Mach ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.
