Water footprint of the Sobradinho hydropower plant, Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesRevista Ambiente & Água, 2018
Hydroelectricity is responsible for the greatest fraction of the electric energy generated in Brazil. The water footprint of hydropower plants (WFP) is an important indicator of the sustainable and efficient use of water resources.

GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.

Performance Triggered Adaptive Model Reduction for Soil Moisture Estimation in Precision Irrigation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate soil moisture information is essential for precise irrigation to enhance water use efficiency. Estimating soil moisture based on limited soil moisture sensors is especially critical for obtaining comprehensive soil moisture information when dealing with large‐scale agricultural fields.

A semi-analytical model of disk evaporation by thermal conduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The conditions for disk evaporation by electron thermal conduction are examined, using a simplified semi--analytical 1-D model. The model is based on the mechanism proposed by Meyer & Meyer-Hofmeister (1994) in which an advection dominated accretion flow

Profiles and evaporation

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1976
AbstractIt is suggested that in all conditions of stability either of two slightly different profile equations can be used, both carrying in‐built stability weighting factors for use in transport equations. Setting Λ = In(z—d)/z0 the more convenient equation for field use is u = S0 Λe−nΛ/2, where n is dependent on stability (+ in lapse, — in inversion):

Using a Supramolecular Approach to Engineer Modular Hydrogel Platforms for Culturing Protoplasts – from General Tissue Engineering to Cellular Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Using supramolecular monomers, various hydrogel culture systems were formulated to culture protoplasts; including 2D, 2.5D, and 3D hydrogels. Depending on the culture platform, bioactive functionalization led to protoplast enlargement (2D and 2.5D) or plasmolysis (3D). This work shows the potential to modularly engineer synthetic platforms for cellular

Characterization of hypersaline zones in salt marshes

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2023
Salt pans are commonly found in coastal marshes and play a vital role in the marsh plant zonation. However, the correlation between these hypersaline zones and the marsh hydrological conditions have barely been characterized.
