The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Inferring the physics of protoplanetary disc evolution from the irradiated Cygnus OB2 region

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Determining the physical processes driving protoplanetary disc evolution is of paramount importance for understanding planet formation. Our current understanding has crystallised around two possible evolution scenarios: turbulent viscosity and ...

Extended Flow-Based Security Assessment for Real-Sized Transmission Network Planning

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The evolution of electric power systems involves several aspects, dealing with policy and economics as well as security issues. Moreover, due to the high variability of operating conditions, evolution scenarios have to be carefully defined.

Using an age-structured COVID-19 epidemic model and data to model virulence evolution in Wuhan, China

open access: yesJournal of Biological Dynamics, 2022
COVID-19 is a disease caused by infection with the virus 2019-nCoV, a single-stranded RNA virus. During the infection and transmission processes, the virus evolves and mutates rapidly, though the disease has been quickly controlled in Wuhan by ‘Fangcang’

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The Evolution of $\Lambda$ Black Holes in the Mini-Superspace Approximation of Loop Quantum Gravity

open access: yes, 2009
Using the improved quantization technique to the mini-superspace approximation of loop quantum gravity, we study the evolution of black holes supported by a cosmological constant.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

An open quantum system approach to the B-mesons system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this talk we consider a non standard evolution for the neutral B-mesons system, namely, an evolution in the open quantum systems framework. Such approach is justified by the very high sensitivity of experiments studying CP-violating phenomena in the B-

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Frozen motion model and dilepton production from 200A GeV S+W collisions at CERN SPS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We have analysed the invariant mass distribution of dileptons in S+W collisions at 200A GeV as measured by the HELIOS-3 collaboration at CERN SPS. Three scenarios were considered where the collision lead to formation of (i) the quark-gluon plasma, (ii ...
