Prediction of subsidence due to underground mining by artificial neural networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Alternatively to empirical prediction methods, methods based on influential functions and on mechanical model, artificial neural networks (ANNs) can be used for the surface subsidence prediction.

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Excavations in Persia [PDF]

open access: yesHarvard Theological Review, 1915
From the head of the Persian Gulf extend two great plains, the one stretching northwestward along the Tigris and Euphrates, the other northeastward along the Karoun. These two plains constitute Turkish and Persian Arabistan respectively. They were the seat of one of the earliest and most highly developed civilizations of the world, or perhaps rather of

Arguments for a "U.S. Kamioka": SNOLab and its Implications for North American Underground Science Planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We argue for a cost-effective, long-term North American underground science strategy based on partnership with Canada and initial construction of a modest U.S. Stage I laboratory designed to complement SNOLab.

One‐Pot Cascade Synthesis of Isoquinolinone‐Fused Quinoxalines Through Sequential Rh(III)/Pd(II) Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
A new one‐pot, dual catalytic strategy for the synthesis of polycyclic isoquinolinone‐fused quinoxalines from commercially available N‐(2‐acetamidophenyl)benzamides and 1,3‐diynes is reported. This transformation proceeds via Rh(III)/Pd(II)‐mediated sequential NH/CH activation/annulation. Detailed mechanistic studies elucidate the reaction pathway. A

Numerical investigation into the failure of a micropile retaining wall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The paper presents a numerical investigation on the failure of a micropile wall that collapsed while excavating the adjacent ground. The main objectives are: to estimate the strength parameters of the ground; to perform a sensitivity analysis on the back

Recent Advances in Ene Reactions with Carbon Enophiles

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Recent advances in the classical intra‐ and intermolecular ene nexus with carbon enophiles (alkenes, alkynes, arynes, and allenes) show a considerable increase in structural complexity and an enormous potential for functional applications in polymer science.

Excavations at Petras [PDF]

open access: yesThe Annual of the British School at Athens, 1902
On a low spur of the hills that shut in the Sitia valley on the east, immediately overlooking the sea and separated from the port of Sitia by nearly a mile of sand-bar, stands the unimportant hamlet of Petras, originally Venetian, afterwards ‘Turkish’ or Moslem-Cretan, and for the most part ruined and deserted since 1896. Mr.
