Jurassic ammonoid with exceptional preservation of the aptychi in the body chamber

open access: yesJournal of Iberian Geology
Abstract An exceptional specimen of Rehmannia (Loczyceras) is described in this work. Its body chamber includes two paired aptychi that according to its morphological characteristics correspond to Praetriaptychus (typical of Perisphinctidae).

The “Preservation Paradox”: Microbes as a Key to Exceptional Fossil Preservation in the Kirkpatrick Basalt (Jurassic), Antarctica

open access: yesThe Sedimentary Record, 2006
Thin sedimentary interbeds within the Kirkpatrick Basalt (Jurassic) of Antarctica harbor exquisitely preserved ‘soft-bodied’ organisms that lived in and around shallow freshwater lakes of the time, some of which were hydrothermally influenced. In the hottest pools, associated with magmatic vents, unusual carbonates were apparently precipitated by ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.
