Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

Special Issue: 100 years of scientific excavations at UNESCO World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio and global research on Triassic marine Lagerstätten

open access: yesSwiss Journal of Palaeontology
Only a few Swiss fossil localities are known globally and of which, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio, which extends from Switzerland into Italy, is the most important one. Following the discovery of the occurrence of articulated skeletons

Reprogramming tumor cells with LCOR mRNA nanotherapy to enhance immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LCOR (Ligand‐dependent corepressor) mRNA encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles restores LCOR activity in tumor cells, constraining aggressive tumor cell states and increasing tumor immunogenicity. This reprogramming makes tumor cells more vulnerable to T‐cell attack and enhances their response to immune‐checkpoint immunotherapy.

Selective preservation of exceptional arithmetical knowledge in a demented patient.

open access: yesMathematical Cognition, 1999
Neuropsychological methodology is generally founded on the description of functional dissociation after focal brain damage. The observation of exceptional abilities can also constitute a means of documenting the different cognitive systems. In this study, we report the performance of a demented elderly patient who, although he had impaired functions in
