Soils of High-Rainfall Areas in the Hawaiian Islands [PDF]

open access: yes, 1943
Rainfall in the agricultural areas of the Hawaiian Islands covers the extremely wide range of from less than 20 inches to more than 200 inches annually. A generally open condition of the soil permits comparatively rapid penetration of water, so that even

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Evaluation of streamwater composition changes in the Vosges Mountains (NE France): 1955–2005 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
n 1995, in the southwestern Vosges Mountains (NE France), 158 of 395 streams (40%) had a pH lower than 5.5 at baseflow. As elsewhere in Europe, acid deposition has decreased since the seventies, as has base cation deposition.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

EFFECTS OF LIME, VERMICOMPOST, AND BLENDED FERTILIZER ON MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L.) POSTHARVEST SELECTED SOIL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES IN ASSOSA DISTRICT, NORTH WESTERN ETHIOPIA [PDF]

open access: yesBig Data in Agriculture
Integrated application of lime, vermicompost, and blended fertilizers are conducive to higher crop yields but its impacts on the nitisols of the study area have not been investigated.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Lime Requirement Determination of Tropical Peat Soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Tropical peat soils are acidic usually with pH values less than 4 and have very low exchangeable bases. The acidity develops as a consequence of dissociation of the functional groups, such as carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups attached to the humic

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Effects of different land use types on soil characteristics and surface acidity in Sidama Region, Southern Ethiopia

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Converting forests and grasslands to farms can impact soil properties and increase acidity. This study examines the effects of various land use types (LUTs) (cultivated, grazing, and forest) on soil characteristics and surface acidity in the Hula and ...
