Controlling Proton Migration in Oxide Heterostructures by Interfacial Chemical Potential Mismatch

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 62, 3 August 2026.
Interfacial reconstruction of the proton chemical potential enables control of proton migration in oxide heterostructures. In TiO2/VO2 heterostructures, we found that increasing the TiO2 capping layer thickness by only several nanometers modulates the thermal stability of protons inserted into VO2.

Anomalous Crystallinity and Magnetism in Chemically Disordered Coherent Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 47, 21 August 2026.
Coherent isostructural high‐entropy oxide heterostructures are realized despite remarkable >5% interfacial lattice distortion. The resulting buried interface exhibits abrupt valence reconstruction which contributes to 2 × enhanced exchange bias in the heterostructure relative to constituent layers, demonstrating how chemical disorder enabled anomalous ...

The Role of Charge Transfer and Linker States in the Magnetoluminescence of a Diradical With Two Spatially Proximate Triarylmethyl Units

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 29, 7 August 2026.
Magnetoluminescent (ML) diradicals exhibit field‐dependent emission due to magnetic field‐dependent spin state populations and spin‐dependent emission properties. In this work, quantum chemical calculations applied to the first reported ML diradical provide evidence of the different deactivation pathways of the excited singlet and triplet states and ...

Enabling Singlet Fission Exothermicity by Tuning the Solvent in a High Energy Triplet Formyl‐Fluorene Derivative

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Solvent polarity/viscosity coupled with the concentration effect on the INTRA + INTERmolecular singlet fission of a formyl‐fluorene derivative are explored by ultrafast spectroscopy. Small changes in solvent dielectric constant/polarizability are very effective in modulating the S1‐1TT energy gap pointing to a slightly endothermic SF in toluene and ...

A PLP‐SEC Investigation of Di(Ethylene Glycol) Methyl Ether Methacrylate Radical Polymerization Propagation Kinetics in Solution

open access: yesMacromolecular Reaction Engineering, Volume 20, Issue 4, August 2026.
The propagation rate coefficient of di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate exhibits the same temperature dependency but is a factor of 12 higher in aqueous solution compared to bulk. Smaller increases are observed in ethanol and ethanol/water mixtures, with the value of the rate coefficient decreasing as the monomer concentration in solution is ...

In Situ Atomic‐Scale Observation of Preferential Premelting at Oxide Crystal Defects

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 47, 21 August 2026.
Under an external stimulus (e.g., an electron beam irradiation), premelting preferentially initiates at the planar defects in crystalline materials, thereby altering the local atomic and electronic structures. [Correction added on July 21, 2026, after first online publication: The graphical abstract figure has been updated.] ABSTRACT Under certain ...

Kinetic Control of Crystal Polymorphism via Flash Photonic Heating: Reversible α ↔ β‐Bi2O3 Phase Cycling in Thin‐Film Photoelectrodes

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Flash photonic heating achieves unprecedented heating rates of 106–107 °C/s, enabling kinetic control of bismuth oxide polymorphism on FTO–glass substrates. Ultrafast thermal pulses drive melt‐recrystallization pathways that kinetically trap metastable β‐Bi2O3, while conventional processing yields thermodynamically stable α‐Bi2O3.
