Gain-of-function mutations in the UNC-2/CaV2α channel lead to excitation-dominant synaptic transmission in C. elegans [PDF]
Mutations in pre-synaptic voltage gated calcium channels can lead to familial hemiplegic migraine type 1 (FHM1). While mammalian studies indicate that the migraine brain is hyperexcitable due to enhanced excitation or reduced inhibition, the molecular ...

Activity-Dependent Increases in Quantal Size at the Drosophila NMJ
We examined whether an increase in synaptic activity resulted in an increase in quantal size at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) of third-instar Drosophila larvae.

Compressed Sensing of Excitatory Postsynaptic Potential Bio-Signals
To reduce the size of the biosignal data is important because a huge amount of data is made by various experiments. In the paper, we efficiently compress the excitatory postsynaptic potentials (EPSPs) which is one of the biosignal types. To the best of authors' knowledge, EPSPs compression has not been studied yet.

Accumulation of Dense Core Vesicles in Hippocampal Synapses Following Chronic Inactivity. [PDF]
The morphology and function of neuronal synapses are regulated by neural activity, as manifested in activity-dependent synapse maturation and various forms of synaptic plasticity.

Brain injury impairs working memory and prefrontal circuit function
More than 2.5 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year. Even mild to moderate traumatic brain injury causes long-lasting neurological effects.

A biophysical observation model for field potentials of networks of leaky integrate-and-fire neurons
We present a biophysical approach for the coupling of neural network activity as resulting from proper dipole currents of cortical pyramidal neurons to the electric field in extracellular fluid.

Calcium channels controlling acetylcholine release from preganglionic nerve terminals in rat autonomic ganglia [PDF]
Little is known about the nature of the calcium channels controlling neurotransmitter release from preganglionic parasympathetic nerve fibres. In the present study, the effects of selective calcium channel antagonists and amiloride were investigated on ...

ABSTRACT Subtotal hippocampal resection can leave residual hippocampal tissue, yet the immediate postoperative electrophysiologic evolution of such remnants is unknown. We describe a patient with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy in whom a hippocampal remnant was continuously monitored using a responsive neurostimulator (RNS) following subtotal ...

The effect of heterogeneity on decorrelation mechanisms in spiking neural networks: a neuromorphic-hardware study [PDF]
High-level brain function such as memory, classification or reasoning can be realized by means of recurrent networks of simplified model neurons. Analog neuromorphic hardware constitutes a fast and energy efficient substrate for the implementation of ...

In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.
