Existence and non-existence of solutions for a \(p(x)\)-biharmonic problem

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
Summary: In this article, we study the following problem with Navier boundary conditions \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} \Delta(|\Delta u|^{p(x)-2}\Delta u)+|u|^{p(x)-2}u & =\lambda |u|^{q(x)-2}u +\mu|u|^{\gamma(x)-2}u & \quad & \text{in } \Omega,\\ u=\Delta u & =0 & \quad & \text{on } \partial\Omega.\end{alignedat} \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Existence and asymptotic behavior of solution to a singular elliptic problem [PDF]

open access: yesSurveys in Mathematics and its Applications, 2011
In this paper we obtain existence results for the positive solution of a singular elliptic boundary value problem. To prove the main results we use comparison arguments and the method of sub-super solutions combined with a procedure which truncates ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Non-steady magneto-hydrodynamics-heat system with joule and buoyancy effects under mixed boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations
This article concerns the non-steady magneto-hydro-dynamics (MHD) heat system with Joule and buoyancy effects under mixed boundary conditions. The boundary conditions for fluids can include the stick, total pressure, vorticity, total stress conditions ...

Stability and existence of a periodic solution

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1968
Many authors have discussed the existence of a periodic solution of a periodic system of differential equations under the assumption that the system has a bounded solution which has some kind of stability. LaSalle [Z] has discussed a more general case by considering an asymptotic stability property of motions. Hale [2] and the author [3] have discussed

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Existence of a solution to a nonlinear equation

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2006
Equation $(- +k^2)u+f(u)=0$ in $D$, $u\mid_{\partial D}=0$, where $k=\const>0$ and $D\subset\R^3$ is a bounded domain, has a solution if $f:\R\to\R$ is a continuous function in the region $|u|\geq a$, piecewise-continuous in the region $|u|\leq a$, with finitely many discontinuity points $u_j$ such that $f(u_j\pm 0)$ exist, and $uf(y)\geq 0$ for ...
