An experimental study of unsteady vehicle aerodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2001
The transient response of a vehicle to a wind disturbance is of importance to car drivers since low level inputs can result in poor vehicle refinement, and extreme effects can result in path deviation. This paper investigates the use of an oscillating aerofoil gust generator to simulate the transient aerodynamic effects produced on a car-type bluff ...

Financial Burden Associated With Hospitalisation Among Families of Childhood Brain Tumours in Australia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

On mathematical modelling of insect flight dynamics in the context of micro air vehicles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper discusses several aspects of mathematical modelling relevant to the flight dynamics of insect flight in the context of insect-like flapping wing micro air vehicles (MAVs).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Number of Blades’ Influence on the Performance of Rotor with Equal Solidity in Open and Shrouded Configurations: Experimental Analysis

open access: yesAerospace
This study explores the implications of the number of blades on the performance of both open and shrouded rotors. By conducting a thorough experimental analysis at a fixed solidity ratio, this research seeks to enhance our understanding of rotor dynamics

A full-scale experimental investigation of passenger and freight train aerodynamics

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part F, journal of rail and rapid transit, 2019
The movement of a train creates a disturbance to the air through which it passes, known as a slipstream. Such disturbances are characterised by changes in pressure, notably around the vehicle nose/tail, and a highly turbulent boundary growth along the ...
