Experimentation and Approval Mechanisms
We study the design of approval rules when costly experimentation must be delegated to an agent with misaligned preferences. When the agent has the option to end experimentation, we show that in contrast to standard stopping problems, the optimal approval rule must be history‐dependent.

Must a Hamiltonian be Hermitian? [PDF]
A consistent physical theory of quantum mechanics can be built on a complex Hamiltonian that is not Hermitian but instead satisfies the physical condition of space-time reflection symmetry (PT symmetry).

Prequantum classical statistical model with infinite dimensional phase-space [PDF]
We show that quantum mechanics can be represented as an asymptotic projection of statistical mechanics of classical fields. Thus our approach does not contradict to a rather common opinion that quantum mechanics could not be reduced to statistical ...

Digital Image Correlation Applications in Composite Automated Manufacturing, Inspection, and Testing
Since its advent in the 1970s, digital image correlation (DIC) applications have been rapidly growing in different engineering fields including composite material testing and analysis.

Mechanism of Experimental Atrial Flutter [PDF]
The mechanism of atrial flutter induced by the local application of aconitine or by the Rosenblueth-Garcia Ramos method was studied in dogs. The results were analyzed from a pharmacologic and electrocardiographic point of view. It was concluded that aconitine-induced flutter is due to a single, rapidly firing ectopic focus and electrically-induced ...

Previously, the authors developed a strain gage (K-value gage) that can analyze the open mode stress intensity factor exclusively. This K-value gage was designed as a one-element strain gage with a gage width of 1 mm and a grid angle of 104° curvature ...

A Review on Mechanics and Mechanical Properties of 2D Materials - Graphene and Beyond [PDF]
Since the first successful synthesis of graphene just over a decade ago, a variety of two-dimensional (2D) materials (e.g., transition metal-dichalcogenides, hexagonal boron-nitride, etc.) have been discovered.

Three-dimensional digital image correlation (3D-DIC) has become the most popular full-field optical technique for measuring 3D shapes and displacements in experimental mechanics. The integration of fringe projection (FP) and two-dimensional digital image

In recent years, the authors have developed a dedicated strain gage (hereafter referred to as a K-value gage) and an analysis method that can analyze the stress intensity factor of a crack with a single element.
