Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

An Investigation into the Pole–Slot Ratio and Optimization of a Low-Speed and High-Torque Permanent Magnet Motor

open access: yesApplied Sciences
At present, low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors are widely used in the sampling industry, manufacturing industry and energy industry. However, the research on low-speed high-torque permanent magnet motors is far from enough.

An Experimental Verification of the Theory of Compound Nucleus [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review, 1950
The compound nucleus ${\mathrm{Zn}}^{64}$ was formed by bombarding ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{60}$ with $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particles and ${\mathrm{Cu}}^{63}$ with protons. The ratios of the cross sections $\ensuremath{\sigma}(\ensuremath{\alpha},n):\ensuremath{\sigma}(\ensuremath{\alpha},2n):\ensuremath{\sigma}(\ensuremath{\alpha},pn)$ for ${\mathrm{Ni}}^{60}$

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Biologically inspired speaker verification

open access: yes, 2012
Speaker verification is an active research problem that has been addressed using a variety of different classification techniques. However, in general, methods inspired by the human auditory system tend to show better verification performance than other ...

Simulation and Experimental Study in the Process of Wave Energy Conversion

open access: yesPolish Maritime Research, 2016
This article introduces the operating principle of the wave energy device and makes AMEsim simulated analysis in the influence of the amplitude and period of the wave on the output efficient.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Abstract Interpretation-based verification/certification in the ciaoPP system

open access: yes, 2005
CiaoPP is the abstract interpretation-based preprocessor of the Ciao multi-paradigm (Constraint) Logic Programming system. It uses modular, incremental abstract interpretation as a fundamental tool to obtain information about programs.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
