Biological considerations in assessing exposures to genotoxic and carcinogenic agents

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1993
This analysis of the relationship between long-term exposure to carcinogens and the risk of cancer relies upon a model which depicts exposure, burden and genetic damage as time series. It is shown that the dose of the carcinogen and the resulting damage to susceptible tissues can be related to cumulative exposure provided that linear kinetics are ...

Molecular biology methods in assessing occupational exposure to harmful biological agents

Podstawy i Metody Oceny Środowiska Pracy, 2017
All employers are responsible for ensuring safe working conditions for employees in their workplace. It is necessary to accurately identify and eliminate all hazards that are possible to remove and to ensure proper collective and personal protective measures. Among occupational hazards, biological agents are one of the most important.

Urinary mercapturic acid excretion as a biological parameter of exposure to alkylating agents

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1977
Mercapturic acid derivatives or other thioethers can be considered as the endproducts of the metabolic detoxification of possibly alkylating agents. It is proposed that the appearance of these metabolites in the urine can be used as an indicator of exposure of the organism to such toxic compounds.

Belief in Exposure to Chemical and Biological Agents in Persian Gulf War Soldiers

Journal of Nervous & Mental Disease, 2008
This is the first longitudinal cohort study of Persian Gulf War US soldiers to examine belief in exposure to chemical and biological weapons before and shortly after combat. A longitudinal sample of n = 1250 male Persian Gulf War US Army soldiers were surveyed 3 to 4 months before and 6 to 10 months after the 1991 War.

37 Functional Requirements to Develop a new Risk Assessment Model for Exposure to Biological Agents

Annals of Work Exposures and Health, 2023
Abstract Within Occupational Risk Prevention, the assessment of risks due to exposure to biological agents has received little attention compared to risks such as those arising from chemicals. This was the case until the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of health effects related to exposure to biological agents ...

[Biological markers of exposure to toxic agents].

Revue d'epidemiologie et de sante publique, 1986
Exposure to chemical agents may be assessed either qualitatively or semi-quantitatively with the help of a questionnaire (type of exposure and duration) or quantitatively either by the measurement of the concentration of the xenobiotics in the environment (ambient monitoring) or by the measurement of biological parameters related to the internal doses (

[Biosafety in laboratories concerning exposure to biological agents].

Giornale italiano di medicina del lavoro ed ergonomia, 2007
Laboratory workers are exposed to a variety of potential occupational health hazards including those deriving from infectious materials and cultures, radiations, toxic and flammable chemicals, as well as mechanical and electrical hazard. Although all of them are significant, this paper will focus on biological hazards present in clinical and research ...

BioBadge: a personal dosimetry technology for assessment of exposures to biological agents

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
The BioBadge is a biological dosimeter product based on a personal collection device developed by MesoSystems Technology. Designed to be worn by individuals in potentially biologically hazardous environments, the BioBadge allows for real-time collection, concentration, and analysis of biological agents present in the air.

Inhalable dust as a marker of exposure to airborne biological agents in composting facilities

Waste Management, 2018
Industrial composting is associated with high levels of worker exposure to bioaerosols. Measurement of airborne microorganisms and endotoxin is complex and the related cost is high. The objective was therefore to examine whether dust measurement could be used as a marker of exposure to bioaerosols in composting facilities.A dataset of 110 measurements ...
